Hi folks - here is my situation. I want to bring home some brugs that I started (from US seeds, brought the seeds with me to Ireland, grew them for a year here in Ireland, but have to return home this month, so no chance to get a bloom). They are all in fine condition, no viruses, heck, not even white flies, grown isolated from all plants in sterile plant soil.
If I were to bring these babies home, what would you recommend? Should I chop off a few inches above the earth and trim back the roots and bring that back, or just cut the thickest "log" I can and bring that home? One of these is 5 feet tall and just kills me that after spending all of the time nurturing them last year that I sort of need to start over.

What part of cutting is best
here is Eclipse thread that might help http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/346432/
Hi Sandra,
If it were me, I would try to bring more than one cutting of each back to the States for insurance. And I would try to get the "log" cutting and at least one or two from the middle section of the plant too.
When are you heading back to the States? Maybe somebody else will see this before you have to leave and give you some more advice.
If any have Y'ed , take cutting after Y - they will flower sooner .
If you take a cutting before or below a Y , the plant has to grow and Y before it flowers .
D- mail Kell or read other posts and pick someone else . I would check with custems , they have funny rules about bringing plants into the states . Sometimes they will allow you to bring in bare root with no dirt .
Thanks everyone - I'll do multiple logs along the trunk, unfortunately, everything is below the Y. I might be unlucky and just get a flowering tree this year with no flowers, but who knows, maybe I'll get lucky. If not, definitely something to put in the basement an anticipating of next year. I think 2007 will really be my gardening glory year.
