This plant is a true Texas Native, it is endemic, which means it is native to Texas only.
This particular plant was given to me last year by Paige, Konkreteblond, it was a little seedling, and look at it now.

The other day we were eating dinner and i happened to look out to the patio, and a little hummer was having dinner too, from that lovely plant.

Frostweed, have you ever seen this growing under a pecan tree or do you think it would?
I haven't seen it under a pecan, but I have mine on my patio in part shade and it does fine. It is certainly worth a try, it is a terrific plant.
I forgot to mention that it is evergreen and hardy in zone 8.

What a great salvia! The more I see salvias the more I love them. When I saw this plant in bud I never dreamed it would look that good in full bloom!

Always - they always give me something else to look at. The one you posted before that made the carpet - I think I found a group 50 feet from my house!! Looks just like it and all in stunning bloom. Now if I only found Salvia that way... ... ... (and no I am not 100% sure but I really really really hope I am right!)
You mean you found the Golden Groundsel? That would be great, but it could also be Squaw Weed, Senecio ampullaceus, they are very similar, but the squaw weed is an annual. here is the link. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/98867

Ok so I found Squaw weed... looked just like that... it is native to right? Because I dug up a bag full and moved them very slowly into the garden... and would hate to hear soemthing and have to run out there in the dark and rip them out before they take over the garden with something I really dont want to have grow out there!
The cedar sage is a great plant. Mine is blooming now. I only bought one last year to try it out. It has perfomed very well. I love the shape of the leaves.
Mary Lee, mine is growing under my big old oak in front of my house. It receives a tiny bit of mroning sun. I think it would do great under a pecan tree.

Mitch, don,t worry squaw weed is native too, only it is annual but very pretty, be sure to save me some seed, Please.
When we went to Tyler last year, we saw entire fields filled with it and it was beautiful, that is where I got those pictures,but the seed wasn't ready.
Cedar Sage can even grow near cedars, which I guess is how it got that name. Mine are looking amazing right now and yeah, the hummers love them! I've got the Golden Groundsel also and their blooms are almost over now. It spreads out to form a nice colony. I could bring some of that to the RU, if anyone wants some.
I am going to take pics in the morning for you guys to identify. I got so much stuff coming up and something in blooming...pink fllowers! :)

Josephine - just let me know how to get the seeds - all I have seen is flowers so far but will keep my eyes open.
Would golden groundsel be a good thing to put at the base of a rose? Some of my climbing roses need something growing around them that won't compete for water and fertilizer. I have St. John's wort growing around one of them and it looks really nice. But I know some ground covers compete too much.
Mitch, as the flowers on the Squaw Weed fade, they will make a fine fluff in the center, and that is the seed, pull it carefully, it is hard to handle because it is so fine, the same with the Golden Groundsel. Thank you for saving me some seed.

Frost weed I like it. A little red goes a long way in a pot.
LOL ... Mitch just calm down... I do have Shasta daisies, but what you see is Golden Rod. you also see some trumpet vine running over the place among some daylillies,daffodils ... I want to know about is the one on the right. Did I get that from Paige? How do you know its red? I planted a lot of Salvias in that spot also.

Sylvia, in the first picture, you have Goldenrod, Trumpet vine, and the salvia looks like Salvia Guaranitica, which is a deep blue.
In the second picture, rhe ferny plnats on the right are Yarrow, the lower plant on the right looks like Purple aster, and the one in the middle, i am not sure.

Sylvia, why don't you take time now to put a marker, rock, stick, or plastic knife, with the names are. Trust me, you won't remember until you get used to see them with the name in mind!! I am trying to start doing it as I have time, and when I plant new stuff. Plus I won't dig where a dormant plant is.

Sylvia, I am very bad at remembering names. When I first started planting my beds, I always inserted the plastic tag very close to the root ball. Every time I watered, I would say the names of the plants, and was able to check the tags for the ones I forgot. After doing this again and again, I finally started learning them. I thought it was pretty funny when a friend would be looking over the beds and I would name the plants for them, and they would be so impressed with my "vast" knowledge of plants, lol. I tried to tell them those were the only plants I knew, but they couldn't be convinced!
Mary, that's a brilliant idea! I have some that I've had for a year and still can't remember the names of. So now I have an excuse for talking to myself in my yard.:)

Lol, yes, that's exactly what I thought. It's just me and the kitties here, so I do talk to myself and the plants a lot. At least this way, I can claim to have an excuse!
My ears have been burning! ;) I just took a few pics of my Cedar Sage today. It is a very hardy plant. It stayed green thru our tiny winter and survived with no extra water. I just forget about it and it does it's own thing. The only thing I don't really like about this sage tho is that it doesn't bloom very long.
I've had mine about 3 years. It usually reseeds a lot so I'll go out and look for babies. I've found that they don't like to be transplanted so it's best to get the little seedling into a pot early. I usually pull up a lot because they try to take over. I'll share but don't think I'm going to be able to make it to the RU. I really needed for gas to go down, not up!!
Josephine, I'm glad you like it and are seeing hummers use it! I hope it attracts them to my yard!
This is a better picture for color and the leaf shape. I don't know how many plants this is, but it's more than one for sure.
If somebody can give me some seeds, I can see about starting them at Schumacher's and have them ready for the next RU.

Guys my problem is I never knew the names in the first place. Mitch told me about some of it. That Arlington swap did a number on me! I dont think I had anything to trade in the first place. Then all of sudden I started getting more and more stuff. I found myself taking anything anyone wanted to give me. I even had water plants and I dont even have a pond. Was that Tarrogers who gave me the Cleopatra? That is the only thing I remember. LOL and thats because I was collecting Cannas to trade all over the united states! lol I think I now have about eight varieties and a white one on order! lol..that was a lot of fun. ...and then it took me two weeks to get eveything in the ground. Oh yeah I remember my beautiful little Quince Tree, it has bloomed twice since I had it. I found daylilles(I think) wraped in paper towels a couple weeks ago that just as green as ever...
Oh yes and this is something I left in the pot ... now look at it! lol
I have no idea of what it is. I was so excited from that swap I got vertigo! lol Shelia sent me to the car, said I looked flushed! LOL If it was'nt for Frank helping me get to the Car, I dont know what I would have done. LOL ...and yes Mitch I have Golden Rod too! ...
