17th Annual Native Plant Sale at the Heard

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuaryin McKinney is having their Annual Native Plant Sale this weekend. Lot's of hard to find native plants are offered! Their wildlife sanctuary and trails are also wonderful to visit. It is the only place around here that I have seen certain birds - bluebirds, wrens, sapsuckers.

The plant list and details are here: http://www.heardmuseum.org/go/nativeplantsale.html

I will be going this afternoon - leaving the office around 3pm to head that way. If you want to know how many of a specific plant they have, for visiting this weekend, just let me know.

I usually go to the Heard plant sale but this year I'm going to an orchid open house in Ft. Worth. Have fun!

SandiTX, while you are up for the Orchid show, don't forget the FW Botanical Garden's Spring Plant Sale. It is open to the public from 9-2 tomorrow (Sat April 8th). I had been on Thursday and they have a wonderful selection of perennials, natives, vines, some annuals, etc. Here is a pic for a sneak peek.

Sheila, yep. It's on the things to do tomorrow. I'd forgotten that their sale was tomorrow until I went to their website today. We're going to the FWBG before the orchid open house. My camera battery is charged & my media is empty. :)

Have fun!
Sandi & Sweezel, hope to see you both at the RU in CS!

Well, I went! I got Red Buckeye, Strawberry Bush, Carolina Buckthorn, Climbing Hydrangea, Cooper Lily, Dale's Variety Heuchera, Green Spice Heuchera, White Lantana montedivensis, Scarlet Sage, and Zexmenia. I wanted more, but need to save. A couple more on my list I brought, I knew I could find for cheaper locally, so that helped save me money.

The Strawberry Bush and Carolina Buckthorn will go down behind the fence in the wildscape. The Red Buckeye was going too go there but I think I will enjoy it in my shade garden "room" under the elms.

I wish I could go to the Ft. Worth Botanical garden sale. Every year I tell my self that I will go next time. I just can't afford it after the $95 I spent today. Plus, I have major planting to do!

Woozer! We left home kinda late, so it was around noon when we got to FW. Most of the plants were gone by then. Everywhere we looked we saw stakes with a plant name in the ground with no plants around it. There were still plants to be had when we were there, but no stuff I couldn't get locally. The only plant I ended up getting was an aster. We also wandered around the Japanese Garden. It was great!

Here's the greenhouse we went to later.
