My Variegated Plumie!! :)

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I had 3 seedlings that I hoped would be variegated.
They came from a batch of seeds I planted last January (05)
This one was also a GA-3 experiment.
It is the one I hoped the most would hold its variegation.

Here She is in whole
I wanted her to be a 3 branched 'Hand'
I have 2 others that I shaped this way that are doing great also.
I hope to find a nice decorative colored sphere to put in the middle of her branches. :)

Wow, Michael...THAT is awesome!!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Someone suggested it might be chlorosis.
Could someone comment on that?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I know nothing about plumerias, but I would think if you did a foliar spray of iron you would find out fast if it is chlorosis. Now watch someone say Plumies die if touched by iron. LOL

I can't believe how fast these grew for you. I hope you get flowers real fast.

Michael, it does not look like the variegated ones that I've seen coming out of Thailand. I agree that it does look more similar to chlorosis or even spider mites. I hate to burst your bubble of excitement so bear in mind that I could be wrong. I have a cultivar called "Henry Apples Dupress" that exhibits this same pattern, and I believe it is a nutrient deficiency of some sort. You could test out that theory, as Kell said, by applying some iron chelate to see if the new leaves exhibit this same pattern. The iron chelate won't change the existing leaves back to green but will only affect the new leaves. Variegation tends to be a more even pattern if it is a chimera, I think. Here is a picture of one variegated plumeria below. That is nice branching in your seedlings.

This is Kukiat's picture, and it is more typical of a variegated plumie:

Michael, there is also a chance that your plumie may have a virus. A few of the leaves are distorted and curl under, and this could be a sign of a virus or sucking insects. Here is another variegated plumeria:

I was pointed to 2 sites about chlorosis and I must admit.
It sure does look like it.
I will repot as my soil PH is about 6.8
Then ill feed it nitrogen and chelated iron.
We shall see what happens!.
It is rather odd though as all my plumies have the same soil and feeding.
None of the others show this or anything like it.
HMMMmmmmmm...............

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Michael, it is not uncommon for certain ones to have deficiencies while the others don't. It seems like many of my cultivars have different needs. The nice thing is that it is correctable fairly easily. Good luck!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Im hoping that despite my efforts
She still does it anyway LOL!!
I love the look!
Its fabulous!!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

She does have a certain appealing "Dumb Cane" look her. Good luck!

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

I am sure the misshapen leaves, curls and all are from inadequate light.
I get this every year.
Billowed, ruffled leaves.
Curly leaves
all sorts LOL!!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Michael, you know that "Dumb Cane" refers to another plant; right? I didn't want you to think I was insulting your plant! Here's a link: http://davesgarden.com/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=dumb+cane&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

LOL!!
I have one!! HAHAHAHAAAA
My wife always hits the leafs with the vacum extension and makes holes in it.
It was beautiful once upon a time....

Im not insulted Clare ;)
Id hardly expect you to make a hurtful comment ... unless provoked ;)
But then I would too WUAHAHAHAHA...
Who wouldnt?

I am looking for a heat pad to root plumie sticks
I know there are 2 kinds
1 doesnt get hot enough
I need a good source
HALP!!! 8^D

What Michael? Don't like my suggestion of Walmart Electric blankets? Ha!!! If there's ghetto way to go about something...I WILL find it!!! LOL

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Use an electric blankey and youll be needing a new place to live too... :(

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Uh - ohh...I missed something somewhere...been using the electric blanket for over a month now. What's wrong with it? Please tell me...obviously I wasn't aware of something. ??????

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

UMMMMmmm...
its a blankey you silly!!! LOL!!
They have warnings posted on the tag.
DO NOT PLACE OBJECTS ON THIS WHILE PLUGGED IN.
The coils can overheat and start a fire.
May God Forrbid that ever happen.
They arent meant for any use except heating surfaces they are on top of.
They also arent made to be used near water.
A number of folks do use them but it is risky.
Check out this link and share your thoughts. ;)

Thanks, Michael. You're a doll. I know you understand me very well. I saw the thread at MPG about the new warning system. I sure wish that had been put in a place a long time ago. I might still be posting over there if it had been. Here is a link for heat pads: http://www.growerssolution.com/page/GS/CTGY/heatmats

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Clare,
Ill tell ya, MPG is nothing like it used to be.
There is an air of walking on eggshells.
So many folks just dont post much if at all anymore.
The noobies are really helping it out.
I have a sour taste in my mouth for sure.
I post about 5% of what I used to
I was terribly heartbroken for quite some time.
I was witness to no less than 7 or 8 squabbles that turned very ugly.
It took the wind from my sails.
Anyway.... the new warning system should help.
The cliques are clear to me now. very very sad
I still care for many folks over there but very cautiously.

Thanks for the link im gonna check it out tonight! ;^)

Edited to say:
"Ibought one!!"
I bought the 2 tray one for $39.-

Hi Michael, that is too bad about MPG. I did notice that there are only a handful of people who post regularly, mostly newbies. I'm so sorry that you were heartbroken. I hope that I didn't contribute or cause any of your heartbreak. Was the 7 or 8 squabbles after I left? I haven't been able to see the Business Forum since I left so I imagine that they were there? I have always said that the Business Forum was a bad idea from the beginning. Yes, the cliques are very clear to me too. I haven't been back to Suki's since the crash, but since so many of the same people are over there, I figured that I just better stay here where things are safe and always friendly. I'm glad you, Brad, Roger, and Kukiat are all here because it is nicer here than MPG anyway. Congrats on the two-tray one! Yippee! Now, how about that metal hallide lighting system? I'm told that virtually any cutting will root with a MH light and a heat pad running 24/7.

Plumiedelphia, PA(Zone 7a)

Metal Halide Lights will be on next years budget.
Im only about 6 to 7 weeks from moving them all outside.
I have 4 different kinds of light and ill use them for now.
We shall see! :^)
The 4 tray pad was too big.
I think Ill order another 2 tray pad next year.
This way I can move them around easily.

You didnt cause any of the scuffles that rialled me.
The contentious posts of a few other folks did.
Them attacking you didnt help
Anyway..... lets let this dog stay dead... ;^)

Sukis site is up and running fine.
It will never get ugly there.
I am an admin with a big hammer
As Yosemite Sam pronounced.. 'AND I USE IT TOO!!'
No wories of any nonsense
Id sure like to have you back over there.
We could use some more folks!
anyone who hasnt been there, Please visit us @ http://www.plumeriatree.com

Michael,
DIdn't see your post till very early this am (as in about 5AM) - was with my oldest and her dog at the emergency vets. First thing I did was to turn off the blanket. Maybe I'll try to "wrap" them with it...God knows we get wrapped up in blankets in beds and it doesn't cause problems...at least I dont' think so. Thank you for the warnings...I have to look at the links. Didn't get up until about noon and trying to play "catch up." Mercy...dogs are as bad as kids!!!
I don't stick my nose where it doesn't belong so I'll just say simply I could never imagine what "type" of folks could be anything but kind to you and Clare. Enuf said. Money order was bought yesteday but won't go out until Monday...situation with dog became a full time job yesterday into today's wee hours.

Okay, Michael, sounds good:-) I'll come back over there when I get a chance. Right now, I have a tough time keeping up with Pals's threads, Dave's threads, and emails, and I'm going to cut back on my computer chat shortly here as garden chores becken. I've got some serious repotting to do!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Thanks, Chantell! I appreciate that! I hope your dog feels better and is okay!
