Not sure where to post about "Bontrosa"

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I just got the oddest looking plant. It has a label stuck in it that says "Bontrosa" but on the pot it says "Bontrosie". The card says

Quoting:
Unique scented geranium for home and garden. Place near window in any room and enjoy pleasant citron scent for weeks. Can recuperate in sunny garden for extended enjoyment.
I have searched on the internet for both names and can't find anything on this plant. Does anyone know what it is? I am sending a photo for you to look at. Thanks

Jesse

Never heard of it or have seen it, but what a cool looking plant. Can you smell it?

not sure about bontrose, but if it's a scented geranium (Pelargonium), care should be about the same for most varieties. Try http://www.nothyme.com/scentedgeraniums/default.cfm

and it should be the foliage that smells good. I don't grow them but a friend of mine is really into them.

That is all I know about it, what was written on the card. But it does smell really good. And I got it from Lowe's yesterday. I went at a great time. They had so many things but I didn't get all that I wanted.

Oh Jesse I always use to love going to Lowes ! I use to get one of the electric carts and they have nice big deep baskets ! I'd fill it all up. Lots of times Hubby had to also get a long bed thing for me to fill up or a couple wagons :)) It was so much fun ! Thanks for sharing your plant sure is cool !

Thanks Allison. I have not had any plants lately except for what you all have sent me and a couple other AVs. So I spent a while walking around outside looking at all of the outdoor plants. I wish I knew more about them. Can Impatiens be indoor plants? I really wanted one but didn't know if I could grow it indoors or not. I would love to hang it on my porch but it said it needs shade and the morning sun shines right on my porch. They were all so pretty. I walked around, then sat down in the lawn furniture, walked around, sat down, etc. I was there for hours. I have not done that in so long. It really was fun.

Jesse Impatients do need sun just not hot burning sun. Morning sun is perfect ! Becareful bringing all these new plants into your home your setting yourself of for your AVs to get bugs.

I really love the way the foliage looks. I can almost smell it.

I know it looks like big fluffy green flowers. neat looking plant. I need to find one of these pretty smelling plants !

That is funky-cool!!

Can't say I've heard of it, either.
I'll look around, though.

Impatiens do OK indoors as long as they have a 'coolish' location....otherwise they're spider-mite magnets!

They do get leggy, too, if not given enough light.

A bright yet cool location indoors isn't always easy to find.

I just thought of something, but can't seem to find a geranium on a Google search that fits the bill.

Monstrose/Monstrosa is a descriptive word often tacked onto the name of a plant that has weird 'mutations'....and we all know that the names written on plant tags often change, just like the phrases in the 'Telephone Game'....so I'm wondering if the vendor who marked the pot 'Bontrose' mistook that word for 'Monstrose'??

Might be worth a try to Google Pelargonium monstrose, or geranium monstrose....as I said, I tried, but didn't come up with much in the time I had.

Jesse, how's this plant doing? I've been trying to find one like it, must be a regional thing. I did get a thread leaf scented geranium the other day. Anyway, just curious.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

It died. I'm not sure what I did wrong but it died. So I'm not going to get another one.

Jesse.....just remember the line in the description:
Can recuperate in sunny garden for extended enjoyment.....so try placing it or planting it outdoors, as it does say *recuperate*......which might mean that it tends to go dormant.

These really need a lot of sun and 'fresh air'.

I think it is too late for mine since I threw it out with the trash. But thanks for letting me know. I had forgot about that but I think it was too far gone for mine.

Oh Jesse sorry such a neat plant. Maybe you can try another one some time !

oh bummer Jesse, that was a cool one too! I know here on the west coast they like to have well draining soil. Most of mine come back from the ground. Don't give up on scented geraniums! they are so cool to have in the yard. I'd bet your neighborhood kids would love them too. Guessing which ones smell like what. There are so many 'flavors' out there too.
