As an amateur I can't help my friend in S.Texas. It is just one of those pass along plants that we all seem to find, and she found this one....
A friend needs an ID
That's the ID printed right there on the photo- Begonia 'Esther Albertine'.
Angel wing begonia Begonia coccinea.
This is a trick question- I just know it. Why else is there no other response after so long?? Silly me.
I don't think it is Esther Albertine even tho that's the name printed.
Esther albertine is a sister seedling of the beautiful old standby,
Sophie Cecile and came out of the same seed batch all those yrs ago,. So I think Esther looks somewhat like Sophie with
beautiful spots and indented margins. This pic looks more like coccinea
or coralina de lucerne perhaps.
Just speculation on my part.
Joools, thanx for this info.. Sophie and Esther both came out of that
aconotifolia x Lenore Olivier cross by Belva Kusler. That's what I read
in one of the Begonian magazines.
Here is a Logees description from 1996-97
Esther Albertine A lovely angel wing with large, feathery, deeply cut leaves. The foliage is apple green with white splashes and huge umbles
of whisper pink flowers accent the leaves.

cearbhaill.....I'm going to guess that this post was in another forum and was recently moved to this forum.....I swear I check this one every weekday and that post was never here before!
This was posted on the above date in this forum. I had forgotten about it because no one ever answered, so I removed it from my watch list.
I would bet that carolina de lucerne might be it or close. I have never been able to ID a plant from web photos. Chalk it up to bad eyesight and color blindness of a degree.
Too many begonia not enough ID galleries...
