Twyla
forum going again so glad
It's good to see so many knowledgable Brug growers posting once again. I stopped coming to the Brug Forum altogether, until I saw on the Forums Listing that some interesting people were once again posting.
I hope to learn a lot more now that they are back. Thanks for coming back for us!!
Judy
We will do our very best Judy. LOL. Winter is (almost) over and so is our winter sleep.

Twyla this time of the year there isnt' a whole lot to post about. I know my own plants are all in deep winter sleep. With spring around the corner I know it will pick up.
I took my brugs up to the GH the first week in March, they are now leafing and budding out. In another 3 - 4 weeks I should have some brug blooms. I wish I could keep them in the GH all winter, but the cost of oil is to high these days.
Propane here is up to $1.68 a gallon. I guess next winter we will turn the thermostat down a little a put more long sleeves on. By then, who knows what it will cost. I can't imagine the cost of heating the greenhouse. Our local nursery has 13 or 17 greenhouses. I don't remember for sure how many. But when the cost was down around a dollar a gallon for propane, it cost them $14,000 a year. By this winter, it could be twice that much.
All I have are pictures of last summer. My brugs have just started to wake up.
Brugie, that's a good price for propane, we are paying $2.49 a gallon here in PA for propane. We don't use much because of our woodburner in the house, but my stove and hot water heater use propane and that's been running us about $84.00 a month just for those 2 appliances, I can't imagine what it would cost if we used our furnace. When we decided to use a oil furnace in the greenhouse it was about $.48 a gallon, now it's over $2.00 a gallon. Thankfully it's been a fairly warm March. Last year we used $600 worth of oil from March until May in the GH.
Oh my gosh...that is a lot of money for heating water and cooking. I can't imagine what it would cost heating your house and greenhouse. We only have propane and in our family room we have electric heat. That one bill is getting pretty high too, especially now that I'm running electric heat in the greenhouse. Fortunately, warm weather will be here to stay before long. It is now 64 degrees. It's been a while getting here, but now we can start working outside and enjoying it.
Oh Twyla, I think it is because no one has blooms yet unless they have a greenhouse. Most peoples brugs are looking pretty ugly still from the winter abuse.
All of us in California should have some good blooms by now but we had such a late winter that is still going on. When our rain will stop, I have no clue!
I am counting on you to pep us up this summer, Twyla. Did you get those seeds I sent you last year to grow? You can lead the group! I sure hope you have a great blooming season!
kell not one germinated i tried tried.. thanks..
Oh too bad. I hope you have lots of other brugs to entertain us with then all summer. I know you love brugs so much. I am looking forward to your pics!!
I did my best to keep everyone in brug pictures this winter. It seems that many people were very appreciative and that alone was worth all my efforts. Now I expect all of you to supply pictures so I can sit back and enjoy. I leave my winter home in florida for my summer place in NY at the end of may and won't have access to many brugs. I do keep some up there but the "special" ones are here in Florida. So i expect lots and lots of pictures from you guys this summer!!!
Yes :) It was great to see all those pretty flowers.
Nothing much happens here. Lots of leaves on the Angel' s Trumpets in the wintergarden, but for a few, which are still sleeping. Lots of buds too, but not enouigh light too keep them. A few attacks of spitermites or aphids during the winter, but nothing else much to write home about ... only a stak of photos from last year :)
So, keep posting and also keep the good contests going.
Tonny, what is that roofing material?
Tonny that is a beautiful picture. Is it your house? And is it current?
Jeanette
WOW a thatched roof cottage, just like my brother lived in, in England, I just love them.
Gary, the roof is made of long straw, that are bundled tight together and tied with metal wires. Its an old house. In its current form it is from 1765. It was made from spare parts from a larger and much older farm, that was positioned a mile from here.
Jeanette, Yes its our current home and hopefully will be for many years to come. We have lived here for four years, that we have spend on restoring and remodelling the house and garden ... there was no garden, when we moved down here. Just a barren field bordered with a few trees and bushes :) Here is a recent picture from December.
What a lovely home, you brother have had. Are you from the UK? I am as crazy with their cottage houses as with the old danish Houses. I have only seen english gardens on TV in documentarys and of cause in one of my favorite series 'The Somerset Murders' that takes place in an old english cottage.
Hey, I recognize that name!!! Hello Tonny!!
Oh my Gosh! It is so beautiful, that I thought that it had to be some kind of staged set, like for a movie or a public park!! What a great experience to live in such a wonderful home. The older I get, the more I realize that lifestyle is so important to everyday happiness. Your home and garden certainly epitomize lifestyle.
Sheral
Hi Tonny, I was just wondering about you the other day!
Badseed, I recognize that name too ... i think. Michele, right? Hello :)
Sheral, I am glad it is not a staged set lol The walls and roof is for real. Yes, I dreamt of buying me such a house since a teenager and for four year ago it became real.
Hi Susie, I took a long vacation after making the floors and the livingroom in the fall, but a couple of months ago I started missing the forums and you guys here at Dave's, so here I am ... I guess :) I was just enjoying some of your pictures, when I returned and found your post. How is Bleu doing ... and Wally, Tigger?
Tonny, What a wonderful place to live, your home is beautiful! Looks like it should be in a painting.
Tonny, I lost that acnistus when we moved. I'm so glad it is still doing well for you. If you get any seeds, save me some please!
Which ones do you want Susie? I have a couple white and some blue I just received off of ebay. Jeanette
If you get seeds from the blue one, I"d love some.
What is Tonny sending you? Is your addy in the exchange? Jeanette
Jnette, he is going to save me some blue acnistus seeds from the acnistus plant I sent him a long time ago. Isn't it neat how things go round? Yes, my addy is in the exchange.
It sure is. Well since he is sending you some I won't bother. Glad you will get some from your very own plant. Jeanette
Thanks for offering Jeanette.
