I bought this iochroma (at least that's what I believe it is) in an unmarked container, with no tags.
Sue though it might be Acnistus australis Syn: Iochroma australis, but the flowers appear much longer and a bit more succulenty (is that a word?) http://anniesannuals.com/signs/a/acnistus_australis.htm
I dont think they're quite as ruffled on the skirt.
Any ideas on who/what it is?
ID help please
Lali, this is what mine was called. I think it looked like yours before I offed it.
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/64774/index.html
that looks the closest Kell. i just measured the flowers out at 2.5" long. not including the bract portion.
Perhaps you should consider roof-top gardening! LOL.
What is the one above? BTW, I lost b. Ruthie =º(
(mushed on me) all the others look ok.
how are your cuttings doing?
It looks like my Iochroma Grandiflora. The furry leaves and stem are also the same.
Kell
Send it to me. I have lots of room.LOL
Elva
I was going to say grandiflora, that's what mine looked like when it bloomed, I can't find it's picture .
kathy
I think you all are right. Its looking like b. grandiflora to me now. Thanks!
Yours looks perhaps a little more vivid & darker purple than my grandiflora shown below.
Also check out this link that shows a few different blues on the same page: http://www.arghyagardens.com/iochroma.htm
Well, good, you got the name and now I want one and one of all the others on that link above, especially that cute white 'Alba'. LOL
Love that one you got Kell!
LOL Elva. It is too big, a 5 gallon!
Oh Lali, I will get you another piece of Ruthie if the rain doesn't rot her. I just went out to get the name of my pink plant to post, and it is still rainnig. I killed about 100 snails on my walk out to the plant. Glad to hear the others are doing well. Is that big standard doing well? All mine from you are great. I still need to get the names of them from you. I just do not know where all my time goes.
Sue, I just saw that one at a nursery but I can't remember which nursery, I have only been to like 20 in the last 2 weeks. LOL. I think it was the Ace Hardware that Marilyn took us to. I will look for you when I go back which you know will be soon. LOL
My hot pink is not the same kind of plant, though the bells are similar but much bigger. Mine is called the Sacred Flower of the Incas, how cool is that? It is a Cantua buxifolia called 'Hot Pants.' The bloom color is a hot, hot PINK! You can see it across the yard.
Sue, you have a pic of one in Plantfiles.
I have it in front of a hot pink ti plant. Too die for combo.
Beautiful, I want one of each color.
Begonia I'm sorry, I think I really didn't say that as clear as I could of. I meant to say that I don't think you have a grandiflora there. The grandifloras that I've seen have been bluer & paler than yours. That link I posted shows how close some of the blue & purple varieties can be.
Kell that one is a jaw dropper. Do you know of anyone in the states offering it for sale?
- Tom
Oh, thanks Tom. I'll keep searching!
I will start noticing their names at nurseries Lali for you. But the trouble with that is I always end up buying whatever I am watching for, for other people. I am so easy! LOL Even though I had that one and tossed it, if I see a well grown one for a good price, I always get sucked in.
Tom, I have only had it a few days but I will say it is so cheerful. The color just stands out. I goggled it and found Kartuz had it but are sold out, maybe you could email him and see when he will have them in again. I understand from the nursery that this will bloom most of the year here. I do not know how this one escaped my PINK eagle eye for so many years.

Thanks Kell! I waited on their backorder list for over a year & a half for B. vulcanicola, only to find he's just not carrying it anymore. I'm still looking for that one. No way I'm going back on the list, lol!
I'll keep looking, but thanks for putting one more must-have on my drool & slobber list. ;~)

I am always drooling around this place. There are so many plants I just really really want to learn about thru growing them, most of which I do not even know about yet. Whenever I think about dying, first off I always think of all the plants I will miss growing and all the blooms not to be seen. Isn't that odd?
Oh I bought his pink one several years ago. It did great but had or got a virus and would get so mottled it spoiled it for me.
Hey Tom, I found it at Annies and they do mailorder now.
http://www.anniesannuals.com/signs/b%20-%20c/cantua_bxifolia_SFOA.htm
While I was looking for a source for you I found this site www.tomorrowsplants.com/plants01.htm
I just love English nursery sites. They always have the neatest plants. Look at Canarina Eminii. Now I am drooling too. LOL
That is gorgeous! When I say I wanted a vulcanicola I mean of course the xflava with mostly sanguinea that everyone is calling vulcanicola like in your picture. I think it would grow great up here in the Pacific Northwest.
Now if I could get a true species vulcanicola... well I'd give an eye tooth fer that one. {:?)
Those are so pretty!
I keep telling myself "Nothing New", or DH is going to kill me. It's not working very well. LOL
Oh I am not that technical. I do recall though reading that the true vulcanicola is not here in the states. I could be wrong.............
Oh Betty, I am living proof husbands rarely kill their wives over too many plants. Though I know a few times he was sorely tempted. LOL

I'm sure you're right about the true species Kell. I'm just bummed I've had several dry runs where people thought they had Vulcanicola & it turned out to be just any old plain pink small flowered brug, not even from the arborea/sang/flava group. I'd be happy if I could just get anything pink from the cold group, like in your picture. Too bad it wouldn't grow for you, do you remember by any chance where it came from?
Thanks for the link to Annie's. I think I'll get one!
My wife says one more plant & then it's me or the plant... but I'm still here. heh heh. I just keep sneaking them in & then use "plausible deniability" (learned that from the politicians) to completely deny that the plant hasn't already been here forever.

Actually it grew great. It was huge when I cut it down. The virus didn't bother it, it just made it ugly to my eye. All of the sang types seem to be virus prone. The only one from that group that doesn't seem to get mottled is true Arborea. Thank God for that is a fav of mine. Do you have that one, Tom? It likes it cool too, blooms all winter for me.
I got it from Kartuz. When you said he no longer sells it I was wondering if it went the way of virused brugs.............
Annies is a fun place to browse. Lots of different plants. She usually carries a 4 inch fat little sang that is so cute. You might want to try that. She has a wish list too so if she is out of something, so if you list it, she will automatically email you when it is in.
I could kick myself for having moved to Texas without bringing the cool weather with me. Many of the things I like to grow need some cool weather. Kell, that was a gorgeous Brug!
Have any of you grown these from seeds yourself? And if so, how did you germinate them. I am wondering if I should sow them the same as I would
brugmansia's.
Thanks, Patricia
are you asking me if I've grown these from seed? no, but I do have some seed that I ordered from tradewindsfruits.com
I haven't had time to start them yet
Patricia you can sprinkle them on top of a fine seedling mix that's been sterilized, no soil covering, in a covered container in a bright East window. Spread 'em out good, because they don't transplant well at all. Mist them often, & you can use cammomile tea if they start to develop fungus.
When you transplant them, use a very free draining mix because they have a very low tolerance for wet roots. Good growing!

I forgot to bookmark this page.
Kell, I do have that red belled Sacred Flower of the Andes, got it in a 4" pot 2 years ago from Annie's, it's in a big pot with long arching branches probably about4-5 ft high now. Love it! My Mom's is also potted and she is planning on training it to grow flush against the fence. her's is in part shade, mine full sun, both look great and are full of buds.
A red one??? I want!!!
You bought it! Same as you posted above.
OK, so it's hot pink. It's been a while since I have seen the blooms and I am dead tired right now, red was shorter to type!
Sue, if you want an Alba I bought some seeds off of Ebay. I only planted 3 seeds and they all came up. I have them in 4 inch pots and would be happy to send you one of them or a few of the seeds if you want.
Mind you, they have not bloomed so I would not guarantee anything. But you are welcome to either a plant or the seeds, or even both.
Jeanette
BTW, I have not found that they are difficult to transplant. They just do not seem to be as strong as the brugs.

Thanks Grrrnthumb, I grew the Alba once, but couldn't remember how I did it.
That was several years ago. Unfortunatly when I moved, I had to leave it.
