Elephant Ears

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

I have many elephant ears to transplant from old property to new.
AT least 100 giant elephant ears.
On the new property there is a ditch down side of drive way that stays wet during winter--- will it kill the elephant ears if I plant them there?
Its a great spot for summer.
The elephant ears are hardy here and I don't have to dig them up for winter but what if water freezes on top of them for short spell?
I dont have to put them directly in the ditch but maybe right next to it but the ground still stays moist next to ditch. I think there is an underground wet weather spring there.

What kind of EE's?
Alocasia, Colocasia or Xanths?
That will make a difference.

colocasia

Interesting thought.
I don't remember anyone asking that about Colocasia before.
I know cold and wet will rot them in a dormant state.
We let the frost kill ours back before digging them in the Fall.

How about planting them starting high in the ditch, where the water won't sit on them, down to the lower part.
That way if you do get a freeze only the lower ones would get whacked.
They will rapidly spread back down come Summer.

I guess I will just dig most of them up in late Fall.
I have never stored any bulb over Winter.
Store in paper bags with slighly moist peat moss? Or just in bag by themselves?

I think everyone here has their own method.
I just put them in brown paper lunch bags.

Leave three or four down and you will find out next spring.
