Elephant EArs?

Nauvoo, AL(Zone 7a)

Will Giant Elephant Ears survive a wet ditch during the winter?
They are hardy in my zone. I know they will do great during summer---but what about winter? The ditch is more wetttttt during winter.
I know i can put cat tails in the ditch and thats on my agenda.
I have at least 100 elephant ears to transplant. Big ones and little ones.

Wow, that's a lot of elephant ears! They must look spectacular. (Sorry I can't answer your question.)

I doubt it, but with so many you can spread them around and try it, why not, right?

The elephant ears I left in my stream margin rotted over the winter. I was testing to see if I could leave some. Glad I didn't leave them all.

what a shame Pixy.
I am thinking of gradually building a raised bed next to my ditch. That way they dont sit in water all winter and I dont have to dig them every year. ANd their roots will search for the wet ditch during the spring and summer.

That sounds like a better idea. I was sorry mine rotted, but they were not all I had. I took some inside and stored the bulbs. It was just a little experiment. We probably get colder than you do, too.

I left my first EE outside here in zone 7a...it was not in a wet place but we had alot of rain that winter and my wonderful EE rotted completely :(
