Can I plant forced hyacinth bulbs?

New Haven, CT(Zone 6a)

I forced some "delft blue" hyacinths this winter--then went away for 10 days right when the buds were about to open, DH didn't water them, the buds withered and never really bloomed :(
That'll teach me not to leave explicit instructions! ;)

My question is, can I plant them outside? If I do, will they actually bloom next year? Should I let the leaves wither in their pots and then store the bulbs, or should I plant them outside now? (my hyacinths outside are just starting to open their blossoms)
I'd hate to lose them--they looked like they'd really be spectacular if, er, treated properly! Then again, maybe I shouldn't give my husband a hard time--they might have been duds all along. What do you all think?

Yes, you can plant them outside NOW, leaving the leaves on, and yes, they will bloom again next spring.

Oh, great! I'll get my trowel out!
