Another of your excellent photos kell. I just love Salvia leucantha. Silly me, I tried to grow it last year, I know, I wasn't in my right mind at the time. It did get lots of buds, but then got hit by frost night after night. Are the hummers attracted to yours?

Here it blooms pretty much all year round, heavily in the spring though. I have a pic of a hummer by mine, but I can't put my hand on it right now. They really like my abutilons.

Fantastic photo, lovely colors.

Kell, I had read somewhere that hummers liked abutilon & that really surprised me. I just didn't figure they would go for it. Guess I will have to add them to my list. The only problem being that I can't find individual colours, most companies I deal with only sell mixed colours.

They flower when they are little too so in your zone you would have a chance for flowers. They supposedly do well inside too though I have never had them inside.

You zone must make gardening a true challenge.

Here we have Monterey Bay Nursery and they have so many incredible ones that they sell to all the nurseries. My favorite are the smaller flowered ones that have a contrasting calyx color. Currently, a pink one is my favorite but I can't find a picture of it this second. Here is a great one called Apricot with the red calyx. I have so many hummers that just hang out in my courtyard because of these.

I love that one Kell. The red calyx really stands out.

Yes, gardening here can be quite a challenge. Our last frost date is usually around June 15 & some years we have frost by Sept. The last two years were exceptional. Didn't get killing frost til Oct.

Do you have a GH? You almost have to have one to get your things growing so you can enjoy some flowers before the season is all over.

I went out in the rain just to get a few shots. Most didn't turn out. But this one was my favorite all last year and it may still be. It has a deep watermelon color outside with a peach inside. A little bigger flower too. The inner center is a raspberry color. A most entertaining abutilon! Veronica.

Awesome photo kell. It would certainly be my favourite too. I appreciate your going out in the rain to photograph it. How I envy you your zone 9b location & I would love to be able to take a stroll through your gardens. Must be a great place to kick back with a coffee at 6:00am & watch the birds. That is how I start my days.

No, sadly I do not have a GH. Wish I did. I start all my plants in the house under several light setups. I'm tellling you, come June you can barely walk in here. The bedroom, kitchen, sunroom & sometimes the living room are packed with plants waiting to move outside. Drives my DH nuts.
