I just picked a sack full of Tabebuia tree pods from a tree I planted in 96 or 97 and has been a great bloomer for the last 8 years or so.I've been growing seedlings from this tree for awhile now.It does best in full sun and well drained soil. The only way I've started the seed is throwing a hand full into a gallon pot and putting about a 1/4 -1/2 inch of soil on top and watering putting the pot in a very shallow dish setting it in the shade until they sprout. Then they go into part shade until about 3 or 4 inches .Transplant to 1 or 2 per pot and into full sun until about a foot tall. When planted into permenant location when it gets about 4 foot tall a very loose staking may be best. The 3 sided staking techique works best to get the trunk to get strong and stable.
My little envolpes fit about 30 plus seeds,if you would like more than one just ask.I'm in the address exchange.I'm going to be out of town around the 15th of april so I'd like to be done by then.
Reply to this thread so it will help me keep track.

CLOSED: Tabebuia tree (chrysotricha) seeds for sase
Don,
I would like some of the seeds. What size and type envelope and how many return stamps does it require?
thanks,
Louise
Don since you posted in seed trading I'll offer trades. Want a tea plant Camellia Sinensis ? You live close enough that I figure it would survive shipping. It will come in a 4 inch pot. Or I can send coontie seeds. They have been cleaned and are setting in moist perlite. Or do you just want a sase ?
TexasLou,small envolpe will work fine .The seeds are very light and just one stamp will probably be good.
Kwetz, either one would be great! I've got some Plumeria if you would be interested ?
OK I'll set aside one of the tea plants and get it ready to ship. I am somewhat new so I do not know where to find this address exchange. Can you dmail me your address or tell me where this address exchange is ?
Kwetz,
on the Dave's garden Home page at the top (header) You see Home Garden Talk Home talk Plant files garden Watchdog etc, etc,Next row You see News Member list Extra's FAQ.Click on extra's,the fourth item down is DG address exchange.
OK I have your address now, mines there also. I'm going to try to ship this out tomorow so you will get it by Saturday if that is OK.
Ken
PS I'll stick a few coontie seeds in also and I'm sending 2 tea plants since you mentioned Plumeria. I've always wanted to try that but never found anyone local with it.
Ken I just dropped off your box at the post office. When you open the box put the plumeria in a warm bright window for a day or 2.Then put them into 1 gallon plastic pots and plunge them into the ground(www.plumeria101.com).When the one with 2 plants in it get a few sets of leaves, bring it back out and seperate into their own 1 gallon pot and replunge.Next year about this time take them out of the pots and plant. They will have a full root ball by then.Remember full sun and feed every 2 weeks after they have 2 sets of leaves or so.I use a 10-60-10 water soluble plant food,I get at walmart Schultz Expert Gardener Bloom plus or anything like it just as long as the middle number is real high.
Good Luck
Don
Yours went out this morning.
OK, for the coontie seeds you can keep them in the baggie, just add a little air to it and moisten if the perlite is not damp. They can be slow, I've had some take 6 months to germinate and others start within 4 or 5 weeks.
I shipped 2 smaller tea plants to make sure they would survive the trip. Do not laugh if it looks like I overdid the packing. If any problem with them drop me a note and I'll try again. They are ready to go into larger pots. These grow well in our area. They like humidity and rainfall but do not like their feet to get wet so avoid planting them in an area where water could stand. They like part shade and when they get around 8 inches or larger they will be ready to put outside.
They are beautiful when in bloom and smell nice also. The tea is a nice bonus.
Ken,
It's 10:44 am Thursday. How the heck did you get the box here so fast.I can't believe it.
Everything arrived in great shape! They look like they just came from a green house(Nice) .I hope your 1/2 as happy with my end of the trade as I am with yours.
Thanks
Don
Do you still have any seeds left? Thanks -
Killerchihuahua, I got alot left.Just send a sase if you would like some.
On its way. :)
thanks much for your generosity.
I'm glad they made it in good shape. I was trying to figure out how to keep them in dirt and post office proof. I imagine yours arrived today also. My wife looked at pictures of the Plumeria . She thought they looked really nice. I'm hoping I'm not starting another addiction. Her orchid addiction is incurable already. ( notice how we males always blame things on wives ;)
Don,
My ssa/env was mailed on Tuesday.
You should get it in a few days.
thanks,
Louise
The plants and seeds arrived today. Thank you ! I am very please with this trade.
We have a 2nd greenhouse out back so I'll start the Tabebuia in it.
Louise-got your sase and it's on it way back to you
Don,
I'm not sure but that this may be too late, but I figured it's worth a try. Can I still get some of the Tabebuia tree seeds? I have just the spot picked out that could really use a tree planted in our yard. I'll send out a sase to you tomorrow. If it's too late however, I perfectly understand.
Thanks & happy gardening,
Debra
