Success ratio on leaves.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I was wondering was everyones average success rate is with leaves. What percentage that you put down produce babies versus what percentage rot. Since I am new to trying to grow from leaves, I am practicing with mostly Optimara Noids. I have been using a mix of about 50% perlite, 30% vermiculite and 20% Scultz African Violet Soil. I am using the 3 oz solo cups with drain holes in bottom and watering when dry. I was not covering. The problem I have had is rot. Out of 90 leaves, I have had 20 rot so far.
Any advice?

Budgie, I heard that our climate (I am in GA) is too humid so it is no good using vermiculite in the mix as it makes the leaves rot. I think Begonia only uses perlite for her leaves.

Others will be here soon for some advice.

I seem to be having good luck. I have one part miracle grow/1 part perlite/1 part vermiculite and lately I've been mixing in Diomateous Earth too.

I would say that is a good ratio :) We all lose some leaves :) it is natural..and some varieties are easier to propogate from leaf and such

my success rate is not very good with the leaves I get in the mail even though I put them in water for a hour.I loss alot. And there the ones I really wanted.Grrr.

The leaves I take from the plants at home I have good luck with.I don't cover.

Spider is right about the vermiculite .
Also not good for them to ever go dry. An older larger plant will forgive you if it goes dry but Miniatures and leaves and babies don't like to go dry.
