Giant swallowtail

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I found it last night resting on a jasmine vine. It was still there this morning, very tattered. At first I thought it was an Ornythion swallowtail, but the wingbands meet making an x.
Can't tell if it is male or female, but I bet there will be "orange dogs" on my citrus plants pretty soon!

I've seen a few also. Today I saw one hovering around my Hop Tree. My suspicions were confirmed when I found a single egg on the plant. Yea!

Yay! They should be headed my way in the next few months! They're beautiful to watch, and so easy to spot!

Beautiful! We don't get them here. The orange looks like taillights. For some reason we don't see a lot of butterflies anymore. My neighbor and I plant a lot of flowers, but they seem to be dwindling.
