Are those bulbs? I've not come across this genera in my reading.

Yes they are bulbs, native to places such as Turkey, Greece, Sicily and Iran. They are not easy to find to buy!

I've never heard of them either, but they are lovely. After looking them up online I'm still unable to find a hardiness rating for them. Although, considering where they originated I'd suspect they wouldn't be hardy much beyond a zone 6. What do you think?

The only reference I can find in my books is that they are winter-spring growers, many of which are mountain plants requiring cool growing conditions in full sun or dappled shade but some inhabit stony areas that become hot and dry in summer. If I find out any more I'll let you all know!
