A tool/device for moving big, heavy clay pots from greenhous

Westerville, OH(Zone 6a)

I do not know if I am describing this accurately or understandably, but --- I vaguely remember a few years ago I saw a "device" being sold that basically wraps around the top lip/edge of a big, heavy clay pot in which a big plant has been growing. The device has two handles attached to it which end up on opposite sides of the pot. Two people then can grab the handles to pick up the pot and move it. I will need such a product in the next month or so to move my biggest plants out of the greenhouse and into the yard for the summer. I have been doing an extensive internet search for this thing and so far no luck. Can anybody help me?

Will any of these work for you? http://www.americanhort.com/dollies.html

Badseed....there is a cool 24 flat carrier in there-I want that!

LOL I want one of those dollies for moving huge pots. I'm not getting any younger and my Great Aunt is no longer around to warn me twice a week about hernias. LOL

I don't think I found the right thing for YardenMan (cute name by the way) but I'll try to look again later. I'm beat!

Charley' Greenhouse offers such a "pot truck" for about $69.95. It has two grabbers that fit over the pot lip, tilt back, and roll away. Moves up to 100 lbs. Fits pots of all shapes and sizes up to 29" high and 18" diameter (according to their catalog). I do not have one, but am planning to get one. My greenhouse is brand new and I'm just getting started this spring.

I am not looking for a dolly or cart - too much $. The product that I am looking for sells for $15-$25. If my memory serves me correctly, the strap that goes aroung the top lip of the pot is made of canvas or rubber or nylon or something similar. I do not remember any details about the two handles. The frustrating thing is that I do not know what to call it so I can Google it.

I move 25 gallon tubs with a hand truck I just tie a small rope around the top lip and roll on. It would not take rocket sicence to retro fit one with a vertical slide devise to grab the pot by the top to avoid using a rope. It would also help to make the lifting plate a litttle bigger if so the capacity of the truck would be reduced because of the extra leverage caused by the lift plate being farther from the wheels. That is the problem I ran into. I tried to google anything I could think of and couldn't hit it!

I think you are right Ernie. My problem is that I raised my little greenhouse. LOL

Oh the things you can find! These cost as much as the dollies and hand trucks! http://www.straptech.com/

Bad are you saying you need a ramp in and out?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I'm not stressing. I'm hoping to get a real/big greenhouse before too long. :) I have to see how things go this year.

I moved all my plants out of the greenhouse this weekend. Wish I had known about these dollies. I used a regular dolly but it is difficult.

There is the bad side of Google. I kept modifying the words I searched for and ended up in places that made me blush! LOL I never did find that particular do hickey.

To all who responded: Thanks for your efforts (especially you, Badseed) . I appreciate it. If I do stumble across this product in the future, I will post it in this forum.

Raggins --- I think you just snuck in a "braggin' " about your nice spring weather through the back door, ha.

:0))
You can easily make these. If you can get a hold of the rubber straps they use on big trucks to hold down the canvas or similar. Two ropes and some pipe to make the handles.
Put the rope thru the pipe, put one end each thru the straps and make a knot.voila. I know that the straps they use for the trucks are PRETTY durable and can hold weight.
Janett who is going to bed now :))

Thank you. :)

Janett_D ---- Thank you!!! That is EXACTLY the device I am looking for. My memory must be a little screwed up because it does not look like the device I had pictured in my mind (oh well, the joys of getting older, ha) Thanks again. Thread closed.

Before you close it, how about a ratchet strap so you can chanage for the size of the pot. You need to invent this yourself. As soon as you do you will find one.

Gamleby, Sweden(Zone 7a)

Thats the beauty with such a device like this, the rope runs in the side thingys so the bigger the pot is, the closer the handels get to the pot.
