Alpine Garden Society Show

North East England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Where do I begin - a really great show with a huge range of fantastic show plants. Unfortunately I didn't buy anything! but I have lots of photos. I'll start with a pulsatilla vernalis that won the best in show - well deserved!

I'm amazed that a large pulsatilla could be grown in a pot...outside they have such deep root systems.

That show looks wonderful. The UK alpine growers really know how to grow them. Do they grow anything outside? All the AGS quarterlies show fantastic plants but most are alpine-house grown...that almost seems like cheating. Would they look that good outside in say Edinburgh where there is lots of rain and fog?

Very nice! And thanks for the close-ups.

A good point Todd. These plants are all so pristine and I would guess that they are all grown under glass. It is wonderful to see how well they can be grown though but they look pretty sad outdoors. I have lots more pictures to post yet! Yes that pulsatilla was huge - about 18" across!
