Why are my Brug cuttings loosing their leaves occasionally from the bottom?? No mites or bugs they just fall off??? They are about 1&1/2 feet tall. They are under lights and on heat mats on low and are moist but not wet, I let them dry out about the first 1/2 inch before watering again. Do I need to fertilize more? Thanks Brug Gurus....Lauri
O.K. silly question # 1001...
Lauri, they will lose leaves if they get too dry, or if there is not enough light and sometimes they lose them for no apparent reason.
Don't overfertilize them or the growth will be too tender when you put them outside.
Lauri, Just out of curiosity, why do you have them on heat mats? I agree with Susie. You have lights on them but the lights probably are not reaching the bottom leaves. They might be blocked by the upper ones.
The heat mats were from rooting it was soooo sold here and I did'nt want them to rot. They are in the spare bedroom and it is lit like the 4th of July..I'll pull them from the mats and arrange them for better light...Thanks all, I was afraid they were dying....Lauri
I don't think they need the heat matt at that size, I would make sure your not overwatering, and try to put them in front of a window to give the bottom of the plant more light, they will always grow new leaves, mine have gone bare at least three times over the winter, and they are in my house, all 100+ of them, and they are from 2ft to 6 ft.

OMG 100+!!! My Dh is grumping about my 6. I'll try that too....Do I wait for them to get tight in the pots before I repot them up one size??? Thanks again..Lauri
What we do for our plants. LOL I am starting to let mine spend the day outside. I know they put on a lot of growth while they are out each day. Every night it is harder to fit them back inside. LOL Some were just bare stalks, they had lost all of their leaves, now they have big leaves starting. Another month before they are out to stay.

Isn't it amazing how they bounce back and hear the call of spring.
Oh Doris, you are such a hoot. Can we see a picture of your 100+ brugs? I can't wait to see your yard this summer.
Doris you say they are in your house. Do you have an area where it is not too warm for them? I overwintered mine in my basement, the only place I had for them and it is the same temps as the living space upstairs. I just had no way to keep them cooler. It was either too warm or a place that was too cold. They didn't do very good.
