Button Cactus, Mulatto, Tapone
Epithelantha micromeris subsp. pachyrhiza

Longer stems because of it's relatively older age. Growing under a shade tree in zone 9b. Wet from the rain

Xeno,
They don't look like E. bokei at all!

Why not?

El Cajon, CA

By far too long bodies, not enough and too short and stout spines. Also at least one plant seems to have kind of a tuberous root.
And if you insist they are real E. bokei this photo still should be deleted, because it doesn't help to ID this species but is rather misleading.
No offense though :-)

I don't see how it's misleading. It's a representation of how they look when they get much older. I edited the caption to state that.

You say they are old plants? I was thinking the contrary ... they were young plants. But you certainly know better how old they are.
But if they are actually old, where are the long spines of maturity in their apex? The other plants you (but not only you) posted in this entry have them! And they are very typical though not only for E. bokei.

I'll say that it is a better possibility that it is E. micromeris ssp. pachyrhiza

As you like.
Though I don't understand why you are not ready to have a photo deleted with a plant of doubtful ID.
