I have some bulbs that produced foliage but no flowers. Why? (I'm in zone 5...the only thing blooming in my garden is crocus, and the daffodils look like they should open up soon). Also, how moldy is too moldy when planting bulbs? I know this is a long shot, but I had purchased some beautiful (and expensive) tulip bulbs last fall, but when my baby was born in September, the garden got put on the back burner. Although they were moldy, they were still sprouting, so I planted them in a large container. Is there any hope? Tamara
Foliage, but no blooms
Zone 5....brrrrr. I would check them by moving the soil away from one to see how it looks. Next time you have mold try washing them under cold water, gently bushing away the softest bad tissue. Then try soaking in a mix of 50% water and 50% hydrogen peroxide til they stop fizzing. Then dust lightly with sulfur and plant. Works for me.
Thanks so much for the info! Tamara
