I have a plumeria cutting, it`s planted in a container. Why are the tips brownish-purpleish, and sorta looks like blisters are on the tips, is this normal? is it still alive? Help!
Plumeria question?
Dutchlady1, Thank you, I will keep watching and waiting.:)
Post a photo Sowmo. ;)
I have many tips which are brownish/reddish and all different colors really. I'm not really sure what the "blisters" are, but perhaps you have an inflo coming? Yes, a photo would be most helpful. As long as the tips are firm, shiny, and healthy-looking, they should be fine. If they darken, blacken, turn soft or mushy, or cave in, then that is a bad sign.
Thanks all, I will take a pic as soon as I can find my camera.
Whats an inflo? When I first got this cutting from my sisters tree, I didn`t even know the name of the plant, now I`m learning alot from this great site, lots of nice and helpful people here. Thank you
Inflo is short for 'inflorescence' which is the bloom stalk. It looks a little like a tiny head of broccoli when it first comes out.
We all started out with ONE plumeria cutting.... most of us here now have dozens if not hundreds..... so get prepared!
Do you know what color yours will be?
looking good>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
I`m so happy' to hear that it`s still alive. It will be color pink.
Thank you all :)
Very healthy looking lil gal you have there
CONGRATS!! 8^D
It looks beautiful and healthy to me!
OMG!!!!!! I`m soooo excited, my son was here today, we were just having a casual conversation, he was telling me how a friend gave him three trees, so I asked him, what kind of trees? He says, they`re called plumerias. I just got so excited and started telling everything, I have learned here about plummies. after he went home for awhile, he comes back with this huge plumeria tree that he said I could have. OMG' I`ve never seen one that tall. I think we will plant this one in the ground. I will need ya`ll to ID it, after it flowers.
Mary
BUUUT pictures now please!! ;^)
Congrats, Mary! That is awesome. How cold does it get in Covina? I am frequently in Downey, right near you. I don't think it freezes there, does it? If not, your tree should be fine in the ground. Yes, pictures would be great! It may not be a named and registered cultivar as most aren't, but unnamed ones can be just as beautiful if not more so.
I`ll take a pic soon, for some reason it looks shorter after we planted it 'Lol.
I just knew, I wouldn`t be able to store it anywhere, during it`s dormacy, so I hope it`ll be ok. Clare, our weather is prob the same as there, been cloudy, but the sun is starting to peek out, I know thats what plummies need..Sun sun sun.
Just reporting on my first plummie, well, I can tell it`s alive, the tips are now looking like growing fingernails, would this be where the leaves will be?
Sowmo
Hi Dutchlady,
Thank you for the unfo, I enjoy learning about plumeria.
LOL never thought of it like that...but come to think about it...that IS what they looked like! :)
Sowmo,
First of all, hello to you. I haven't had the chance to run into you yet here at DG.
I have grown plumerias for several years and they do very well here in our area, and your area. I want to give you one big piece of information....make sure the one you have in the ground is in well draining soil. If it's in a low spot in your ground, and it rains pretty well in the winter, you could lose it. They can get root rot pretty easily and you won't see it until it too late. I lost my big one 2 winters ago when we had the big rainfall. My soil in that area was pretty much clay like and the rain settled into that area. I was pretty saddened by that loss as I grown it from a small stick that you get in Hawaii in the plastic bags.
My neighbor sprinkles Osmacote into the soil near hers every spring, and it blooms all summer.
Hope to see you around the gardens,
Donna
Hi Donna,
Sorry about your plummie.
At the moment my larger plummeria has nice green leaves, and the smaller one, has some really weird tips, which might be the so called "claws.
Our weather is over 100 degrees these days, so thats good for them.
Just reporting on my very first cutting "WOW", my first flower is here.
I will take a pic, as soon as it gets a little fuller.
Mary
Congrats, Mary! Yippee!
