Yipee!!!! I saw a Bluebird not once but twice so I know Spring can't be far behind...Now if someone would tell the weather that we would have it made...We are expecting snow again on Wednesday...
First BlueBird!!
Congrats on your bluebird kinnika. Has to be a sure sign of spring. Do they nest in your yard? I can't wait til ours come back but that won't be for another 6-8 wk.
Oh kinnika what a treat that would have been! Ü We always have a few nest on the outbuildings ......haven't seen one yet this year but will be keeping my eyes peeled now. :)

You are so lucky kinnika. I have been waiting for years to see a buebird. I've heard they are close to my area, but I've yet to see one.
We have 2 nest boxes in the yard and last year we had the thrill of having them nest there..I watched the entire summer and watched as 3 little blues fledged..They say they come back to the same box every year so my fingers are certainly crossed...I raise Gouldian Finches abd the tiny peeps are great to hear....Our blues are about 2 weeks early this year so I really had to scramble to get my Mealyworm farm going. Echoes I hope you get a chance to see one as they are really beautiful.
You lucky dawg. I have been trying for four years to get the blues to nest in my yard. They visit every day & sit on the power lines or in the crabapple tree & they check out the houses but don't nest here. Last year they chose my neighbour's birdhouse two doors down. We have lived here 20 yr & I have never seen him clean it out. Is that the secret? I am a fanatic about cleaning out my birdhouses every spring. Even went as far as doing the mealworm thing last year even though they totally gross me out. The starlings & grackles loved them.
I bet you got very little inside work done until your babies fledged. Hopefully you will be watching them again this summer.
OMG, that's a lot of little birds in one box, but that's the cutest photo. Just makes you say 'ah'. I usually have my tree swallows & the sparrows. Still dreaming of bluebirds though. Would love to see pix of your blues this year if they nest for you.
Great photo, kinnika! Ü

oh don't worry if they nest here I will definetly get photos..
That is a great shot kinnika! I'm definitely not going to complain about my house being too small again after seeing that wren family tucked in there like that, lol.

Kinnika thanks for showing us this incredibe picture. I've never seen so many baby birds in one home.
We saw our first bluebird here about 5 or 6 days ago. Quite common in our area (along the Fraser River/arid microclimate).
BUT, only one robin here so far (though they've been back in the general area for some time) and he(she?) left after a day or two, and NO red-winged blackbirds(male) yet who are usually all over the fruit trees singing away waiting for their ladies to arrive at this time of year.
But I do have a lonely magpie hanging around the sheepfold picking up spilled grain - an oddity in this part of the province; we see them occasionally passing through but not common.
Very odd weather this winter/spring - the usual birds are not showing up at the feeders (except for the chickadees, LOL!) & "strangers" have been appearing when least expected.
Our resident Canada geese are back - we have the same "family" (we think - they show up at the same time/place every year with a few more/less members each time) who nest on the riverbank in one of our hayfields every year.
It does put quite adifferent perspective on size dosen't it.I have a complete sequence of events in that nest and it was great to follow it through to the final..Unfortunately we didn't seem them leave as it just kind of happened all at once. We had an influx of butterlies that laid thousands of eggs and they all hatched about the time mom and dad were collecting food so they had lots to eat.
Hillfarm-Yes the weather here this year has been really strange also..We never had snow until Middle March and then we got 16 inches in 2 days and turned really cold..We had a silly Robin ( Male)show up right in the middle of the storm but haven't seen any ladies yet. Last year was the first year we had Red Winged Blackbirds at our feeder and they were very entertaining so I hope they come back this year..We saw our first Ducks fly by this morning and the geese have been here for about a week...The yard is definetly alive as the American Sparrows are singing their little hearts out....So hurry up warm weather.
