Thanks for the warm welcome. I can't wait for spring, hopefully in another month I'll be able to get outside and do something in my yard.My husband would say say we have a lot of rocks growing. I built a pond using rocks a couple of years ago, then had a few left over so I built a flower bed with rocks for the edges. Well then I had to go and get a few more course hubby has to come to help lift some of them and for some strange reason I either had to many or not enough and I had to keep building more flowerbeds. Well that started in the backyard and now I have some rocks sprouting up in the front yard. I like a lot of different flowers and bushes. I pretty much go by the look of the plant, check the zone, buy it and try it. I love anything that gives me a laugh so I have a gnome flowerbed, fairy flowerbed, kids and a few whatnots. Oh and birdhouses too. I have now got the cement bug so am presently making cement mushrooms and fairy or gnome toadstools in my basement. My husband says the cement is as heavy or heavier then some of my rocks. I told him its good exercise for him(LOL). I have ordered a few moulds for the cement and am having fun with them. Who knows what else I might think of. Can't wait to see which plants made the winter, hopefully all of them. Sorry to make this so long. Take care.

Welcome from Ottawa!

If you're interested in working with concrete, you might try this technique I stumbled on in the Container Gardening forum, making containers out of 'papercrete', sort of like papier-maché with cement mixed in. The guy (tomtom) describes the technique in detail in this link: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/472203/

I'm itching to try it!

Andy

Hi gluestick. Long, that wasn't long. It's nice to have you tell us what you do and helps to get to know you. I can't wait to see some pictures of your finished products. We had some threads last year about cement castings with leaves. I've only made stepping stones a few years back. Welcome to Dave's Garden.

Hi gluestick
from Edmonton.
Long is not a problem when it's got information.
Tomtom's information is great andycdn is right! The hypertufa stuff is also interesting if you want to give cement a try.
Take some photo's of your "rocks" I'd love to see them.

Hi all,
thanks for that link Andy, that looks interesting too. Oh god another project to add to my list(LOL) I glued my caps on my big toad stool,am trying to find something to use for my doorknobs then I can seal it.It has 3 houses on it Soon as I can figure out how to post pictures and the snow melts I will post some pictures for you. I am really pleased with the outcome of my toadstool, now I am trying to eliminate a few steps by doing a couple of them at once.
I have been in the hypertufa forum already, its great.
I have another big toadstool in the making now, went to bed the other night with all these birdhouse ideas in my head and couldn't get to sleep. I don't know I lay my head down and my brain seems to come alive but my body is to tired to get back up(LOL)
Will try to post often but some times work or play gets in my way. But will keep you posted and will try to post some pictures for you in the near future.
Have a great weekend everybody.
Debbie
