She killed my chicken. I had two Rode Island reds that are cage free in my yard.
They were never afraid of the dogs and I never had a problem. She would chase them every once in a while and lick them and what seemed to be play with them. Never an aggression type thing. Yesterday I noticed she wasn't coming in and looked to see if the gate was open. All I saw were feathers and her coming from that direction. I looked and could go no further. I called my DH to get a better look and said she needed to be put out of her pain. It seems from what he said she got to her neck. I don't think she did it to be malicious as she is the friendliest dog I know. I had the chickens for 2 years. Why now? I never though that this would happen.
The problem is my DH won't let her near our 5 month old Granddaughter now. I of course would have never left her alone with Abby any way but he says she shouldn't even go near her. I don't want to do that but now I am afraid too that maybe she was just did what she would have done to a stuffed animal and could do that to a baby. Abby has never once showed any aggression at all even in play.
I guess I am just looking for some reassurance.
