Hello everyone,

I just joined this friendly and informative forum. My husband, Jim, and I recently moved to Oregon after 9 years in Scottsdale, Arizona where gardening consisted of watching the yard crew do our yard. Now that I am back in a gardening area (I am a Minnesota native) I am very anxious to get going in the garden.

We live west of Portland, Oregon on a ridge above a valley that is all orchards and wholesale flower growers. We have 14 acres, but only about 2 cleared, with the balance in natural woodlands.

We raise and show Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers and are currently pretty much controlled by five of them, great grandma, Ch Wheaten Rebel's Raleigh at Celtic, our sole male, Ch Wheaten Rebel's Wolfe Tone (Tibbs), Raleigh's granddaughter, Soldiersong Pegeen Mike and her five month old bundle of trouble, Soldiersong Matilda Tone. Matilda wants to help me get the yard in shape, but I am discouraging her from joining in the digging fun.

Right now I am trying to come to terms with weeding long neglected beds, trying to at least get some sort of handle on the moles in our lawn (soon to me a small orchard), and dealing with the fact that Oregon slugs could star in a horror movie, they are HUGE! I am used to little Minnesota slugs, not very abundant in my former life. These slugs are enormous and plentiful. I do not like slimy things!

Anyway, I look forward to sharing and learning with this group.
