Lantana Question

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

All right wise North Texan gardeners... - here is a question for you. I just bought four Lantanas today with stunning flowers (three Cultivars of camera had to get two of one... ) are all these going to be ok here over winters? I know my pure natives from Josephine (thank you again!) are all doing great and coming back out but the store had these for .99 cents mixed in their annuals. So are they going to be a one year show or will they be back for next year?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

They'll be back Mitch, Lantanas are perfectly hardy here, are yours the shrub kind?
or the trailing kind.
Josephine,

These are shrub - all shrub. I have 50 or so of the trailing, those are the only plants of the old landscape I left. They come back strong every year - in fact they never died back this year, I still have them blooming.

Heyyy Mitch what color are your trailing Lantanas? :)

I have purple and yellow, more purple then yellow but I do have a lot of it. I have learned it does not like to be moved but if you are game I can get you some purple (I know where it is - it is still blooming...now the yellow I have no idea. ) r

Lantana can be propagated from cuttings quite easily. Just snip off a piece a few inches long, remove the lower leaves and put it into some soil, keep moist and out of direct sun, and you can have lots of plants! Rule of thumb: you want at least 2 leaf nodes below the soil and 2 (w/ leaves) above...and pinch off any flowers that may be on the cutting.

Thanks! I need to get a BUNCH of these started.

Yeah Mitch, go for it! I know what you mean when you say they dont like to be moved, I use to have a lot of it. Oh boy, another inservice on propagation. Mitch how did yours come out? I lost my to cold weather. btw did the orleander I gave you make it?

Soooo far my cuttings make it 50/50 - so that is getting better!

How many cuttings do you want? I can bring tons - name how many and it will be there!

The orleander is still hanging on - no new growth yet but still green and I have found some roots in there.

Dallas, TX

You found roots in the Red Orleandar?!!! How exciting!! Oh my I feel so good about that! Josephine, did you hear? Mitch I had some left over that was still green... I should have left them alone ... I thought they were goners. ...just found out what a dead orleander leaf look like from my white one that I purchased last summer. :(

Sure should have - yes there are a least a few little roots in there. Hard thing it keeping Chi out of the cuttings.. cannot trust him near them at all! So it made it and hope to see it grow into a great big bush!

Dallas, TX

Yeaaa... then you can give me a cutting. lol I have been waiting for that tree to turn green again ....the one I swiped the cutting from on Ross ave, then I will get me more cuttings. And the Vitex with the blue flowers. I am just going to go over there with my Pitchfork and dig it up! Who would care? they have torn the house down! lol
