My first butterfly

Central Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Not new to DG but new to this forum. I am so excited...I got my first shot of a butterfly this week. Can anyone identify it for me? I usually get little ones but this one was pretty big. I literally ran form the second story of my house down to the garden because I spotted it while I was admiring my garden from above. :-)

Hope you enjoy the picture.

Thanks but I am not sure I will have many more opportunities like this one. I think this is a swallowtail and it was so beautiful!!!!! I can't wait to see what everyone else posts this year.

Congratulations! This is a Tiger Swallowtail. You'll be addicted to taking their pics now. I don't know where Harker Heights is, but I'm going to assume it's south of my area (S of Ft Worth) since you are seeing it now.

For the past 2 years I have had ONE visit me in the early Spring. You've reminded me of that so now I'll set my camera closer so I can try and get a pic. It's so exciting! I wish they would stay in my area.

Thanks Paige. It is the only one I have seen this year. And yes, I am about 2 hours south of you.

I have a new camera this year. I usually take pictures of my garden flowers but now with the new camera and macro lens I will be taking many more of the litter critters that come to my garden.

Great photo!
There is a recipe for butterfly attracting stuff on this forum that should make it easier to get photos of butterflies. I think it is TexasPuddyPrint's recipe. I have some "brewing" but we're cool now and I haven't tried it.

Oh Doodlebug, you are going to have so much fun with that new camera! The macro is great for butterflies. It's just amazing what you can see! You're getting me excited about using mine again!

I'm not making the "brew" because I think I'll attract other critters but I am going to make me a puddling area with sand. Maybe today!

konkreteblond-Love the butterfly you posted. Just gorgeous.

Magpye - I got the Canon Digital Rebel XT. My husband bought me the 75-300mm tele macro lens for my birthday. I can get those butterflies without them even knowing it!

Calalily - I have bookmarked the "brew" and may try it next year. For now I am just going to see what my flowers attract.

Thanks everyone

I don't know anything about that macro but it sounds good! Can't wait to see some really close pics!
