I just got an order from hirts and NOT happy

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I ordered 5 plants from hirts..they were optimaras that I had not seen before.
Anyhow..I got them today...AND...2 of the 5 I ordered they did not have.
1 they said they didnt' have and said they sent a replacement worth more *the plant I ordered was a fantasy* they sent a pink one.
the second one they didn't mention at all...it was supposed to be lilac and blue..but they sent a purple thumbprint.
None of the 5 have any evidence on them at all that they are optimara.
I emailed Hirts..so I will see what they say.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Not good. Did you order direct or Ebay ? I emailed them one time asking if their blooming Miniatures were named they never answered me so I never ordered.
Good luck hope you get a refund. Let us know.
Heh Lorry did you ever get the plant from David Senk ? your yellow one ? Alchemy Gold was it ? Have a picture ?

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

I ordered from ebay

I did get my alchemy gold :) and nope I never took a picture :) But I can..she isn't in bloom right now though..

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Hirts is a big operation. I ordered a Ming Fern and it was nice. Good luck in dealing with them , let us know how it goes.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Actually upon opening them
The pink one is variegated and pretty :) though I dont' even know if it is an optimara so can't ID it.
is anthosflores part of optimara? Because one has a tag with anthoflores.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

They are usuallly very good about answering emails though :)
So I hope they will :)
I got my goldfish plant from them and have done a lot of business through them

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

anthoflores is from canada i believe...at least that's what my tag says...and Lorry...you remind me of my childhood...you guys may recall that i grew up in Ohio and not far from Hirts at all...i would pick beans for 35cents a half bushel...lol...Hirts is a very big organization...and i suspect they raise plants for others...perhaps even anthosflores..
hope it works out...if they have an 800 number give them a call...Hugs to you all..

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

They said to email them if I was unhappy so I did
They sold them as optimara which they aren't.
They also sent two I didn't order.
If they posted it on ebay..it should have been available
So you all need to keep your fingers crossed for me.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

HI Bob nice to see you ! Yes Anthoflores African violets are Canadian Hybrids among thousands of other great plants !
Hirts probaly grows or buys cheap Anthoflores and Optimara and more. Did they say they would come named ?
They have a lot of great plants but I don't think their in FC at least not many.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

I've had a few now and then sure we all might have one now and not know it. I just did a search and fount a plant I grew and could not find info on I sent it to Starfly I think ? I will have to check and get them the info.
I have bought a lot and got a lot of leaves from Canada .
Appolinaire (Anthoflores) Single white sticktite pansy/blue edge, eye. Medium green. Standard
I searched for this and could not find. lol Until now.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

LITTLE AXEL - (Anthoflores) Semidouble and pansy shaped flowers. Bright blue in color, the blossoms are marked heavily in white on each petal, forming a star shape appearance. The semi-miniature foliage is medium green.
Anthoflores is like Storytella lot's of cute pretty plants !

LITTLE RICK - (Anthoflores) Single stars of white hae bold thumbprint markings on each petal, in shades of pink. the foliage is meduim green/seminature.

There is a list of them some where !

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

No they didn't say named but they did say optimara..One is anthoflores angel which is VERY pretty but they are not optimara...nor are 2 of the 5 what I ordered

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

the garden watchdog...doesn't have a very good recommendation for hirts...lots of negs..

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Hmm guess I should have read that first. I don't mind the plants and guess I will just keep them then :)
the variegated pink one is GORGEOUS and had 3 suckers on it..So anyone wanting a pink pansy flower with variegated leaves..let me know..when these root they are yours.

I repotted everyone and cut off all the rotted flesh.
I had good luck with them in the past but this will be my LAST order from them...given the reputation they have on here...Though I am curious to hear what they will have to say.

Missouri City, TX(Zone 9a)

I ordered through ebay from them and the plants were ok, but I was disappointed; I ordered a specific passiflora and rather than contacting me to tell me they were out they didn't send anything to replace and everytime I went onto their site they still had the same passiflora listed for sale. I would order from them again, but they wouldn't be 1st on my list.

Lorry, sorry things went so wrong.
I just rec'd an order from Kartuz and was very happy, plants very well packed, healthy, and exactly what I ordered. On the other hand I was notified a week ago that my Pow Wow was being shipped and I still haven't rec'd it. I checked the post office tracking and all they say is that they were notified by sender to expect the package. This is really getting on my nerves. Also another ebay seller has not sent me 3 grasses that I bid on and won, both the Pow Wow and grasses were paid for over 3 weeks ago!

I've been looking at all the AV sales sites today, thinking about spring orders I'd like to make. I've come across a couple places that seem to have been fabulous to purchase from a while back, but now they're not so great. It's sad to me how careful we have to be in order not to lose our money.
On a lighter note, Lorry, you know variegated foliage is my weakness, so if you've got one of those babies that isn't already claimed, I'd love to give it a home! :o)

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

You can't go wrong with Violet Gallery, Rob's, Bluebirds , atr least if your plants are not good BLuebird will refund shipping and all.

Lilburn, GA

I received an order of 3 mini trailers from Cedar Creek on Wednesday, They came all dead, beyond help. i sent them an email but they never bothered to answer it. :o((

I'd email them again (and again and again...) til I got an answer. I sure hope they make it right for you.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh Anna sorry.
It get's tiring. See you get a box of dead plants . Even if they replace the plants you have to pay new shipping so your out of shipping $$$. And if they refund you your still out of shipping money with nothing to show for it. After my last two orders like that and beging out of almost $20.00 shipping money with nothing to show for it I said forget . I have better ways to waste my money.
Atleast when the plants I got from BlueBirds Greenhouse were bad they refunded 100 percent even shipping which is only right it was their fault the plants were bad in the first place. And atleast from them and Violet Gallery and some other Vendors you get nice size plants.
year or more ago I did get a box of yuk 12 AV plants from Jacks guess he had been moving or something. He sent me a new box and did not ask me to pay postage for new box.
People really should leaves feedbacks in DG's Garden watch to help others ordering.
Anna hope you get new plants or full refund. I know they make you pay new shipping charge :(

Lilburn, GA

Thank you Violet. I am thinking of leaving feedback but I am going to wait a bit more to see if they will be in touch.

hugs
Anna

I have just checked watchdog. There is a yellow flag by their name.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Oh really. The last two plants I got from them they just stood there ( tiny to begin with) and I did not like how they looked or not growing so I threw them away.

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Morning Allison,

Yikes!!! You threw two plants away! Oh my goodness....they have to be pretty bad and even then I almost cry if I have to throw a leaf away!

Feel bad for you Chris_Lorry

Sorry to hear about your problem Lorry.

I have ordered twice on ebay and both times I was unhappy. I am still trying to collect on an insurance claim from the post office. I hope things work out.

edited for spelling.

Nanna the Post Office told Hubby that they do not cover plants with insurance ? Is it different they so ? What did they say ?

Nevada, MO(Zone 6a)

I can empathize with anyone who purchases plants and anxiously awaits them only to be disappointed. I purchased a lot of plants from e-bay this winter and have been very happy and very disappointed. I think Allison once said that she never buys from a seller that doesn't provide a picture of the actual plant up for auction. I second this advice after having been burned by winning an auction that only showed a sample picture of a full-grown plant. This seller stated that the plant was a large starter ready to be potted on. The seller also had very high feedback--over 99%. I bid on and won 4 AV plants. They are all dead now. 3 died within one week.

I've won auctions from Cedar Creek Violets. Sure they have a nice variety and even offer Buy-It-Now plants. My plants arrived completely water-logged and wilted. I tried everything to save them, but couldn't.

On the other hand, I can buy with confidence from mrsstrepsstreps, pjsviolets, and iceberg2000. They are excellent!

I don't know if it's proper to list e-bay sellers that I would no longer do business with here, but if anyone is interested in that information, please d-mail me and I would be happy to share it.

Mrsstreps is from my AV club. she is a very serious grower so I am happy to see that she is a good ebayer!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Ok Raingazer baby :) One is definitely yours..and you will LOVE this one :)
I will also enclose some more variegated leaves for ya :)
I have modesty (which I dont' think I sent you leaves of yet) And I got Buckeye fiesta today at the plant sale!

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Also on reputable dealers.
jacksviolets is FABULOUS and he has a special...for every 5 plants you buy ..he will give the person who referred you one violet. He pays shipping on the ones he sends to the referral also. He stands by his plants. I had one die and he replaced it..Also if you buy 10 (4.95 buy it no) Shipping is free :) many from my collection are from him

Also Rainbow violets is FABULOUS! Healthy large plants often in bloom! She also has a site www.rainbowviolets.com

I also buy from PJviolets and feel confident in their plants :)

Iceberg has great plants too..I have gotten episcia from her!

and Arikab? Is that right? Her plants are wonderful!

Abilene, TX

How could you not like something called Mrs. Streps Streps. : ) Just have to smile. : )

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Allison, I think the postal insurance claim Nanna was talking about involved that lovely terrarium she bought which arrived smashed beyond repair.

Lorry, Spider... so sorry you got such disappointing boxes! Yuk!

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Wow, I'm surprised to hear this Anna, I just got a box of leaves from them and they were beauties. All of the other leaves I have from them are doing GREAT!

All the plants I have from them did pretty good except for one 'Rob's variety that arrived with the few green leaves broken off. The other leaves left were pure white, not enough to sustain the plant. But everyone else arrived in excellent shape.
Since they send their phone # I think you should call in person.
Here it is again.

606-365-1123

Kentucky isn't that far from you. They should have made it ok.
