Need some advice please.
I have 3 AF pots. They are in a SW window and are doing really well. One of the pots have 3 plants in it. They were so small when I purchased them that I planted them together. All the same type. Now they have gotten so big that the center of each of the plants looks so tight that it doesn't look like the flower can get through. Also, if you look down in the pot under the plant you can see that there is like a "stem" going in the dirt and then there is the plant on top of that. Make sense? It is not flowering. My other 2 pots are full of blooms so I am guessing that it's roots need some space.
#1 How big do they get?
#2 Can the 3 plants be separated without losing them?
#4 Is leaf cuttings the only way to propagate them?
Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Patricia
Need some advice please!
Sorry I won't be of much help...but thought I'd 'bump this up' for you so some one will see it and try to help you out!!
Yes, you can separate the 3 plants... and it sounds like they've also developed "necks" and need to be repotted deeper (new roots will grow from the buried neck)... robsviolet.com has good how-to information on their culture pages. Once the plants are separated, look at the size of the rootball to determine how large a pot it should go into... just barely bigger than the root system would be ideal. Most folks here have the best luck with a light soil mix, half perlite and half regular potting mix (even special "AV potting mix" needs the added perlite). Once the plant recovers and fills its new pot with roots, it should bloom again, especially if you give it a little half strength AV fertilizer when you water.
Check the sticky thread for more details... it has lots of links to good culture information!
Thank you critter! And thanks for the 'bump' nan!

I am trying to take a pic now. I am really new to this website and all its workings so bare with me.
Can you answer a question for me? Is there a quicker way for me to watch this thread? Right now after I repsond I have to click on "The AF F forum" then find the one I first submitted.
WOW those are beaitful ! Thanks for sharing !
Website question sorry I can't answer I am not good with such stuff . Sure someone else could :))
Oh how beautiful those are! Great find!
As far as watching this thread - since you're the one who started the thread, it automatically becomes one you're watching. On your Dave's Garden homepage, it will show up at the top as an "Updated Thread" when someone adds a new post.
April, if you read this, the one on the right looks so blue to me. See what I mean about others finding the beautiful blues? LOL
Thanks for the info raingazer! The colors of these two AV's are what sold me. They are the most vibrant I have seen.
