I LOVE this publication... it's how I got my foxglove seedlings last year that are now huge and where I have found farms that will load manure for me.

The Farmers and Consumers Market Bulletin has served as a medium of exchange for Georgia’s farmers and consumers since its beginning in 1917. Throughout its 89-year history, the non-profit periodical publication was produced weekly until it was reduced to a biweekly schedule by the Georgia General Assembly in its 2003 session."
Georgia residents may subscribe to the Market Bulletin free of charge, but out-of-state subscribers must pay a $20. annual fee.
In addition to the free advertising available to farmers and consumers, the Bulletin offers a variety of information about agriculture and the department, as well as such regular features as a recipe column and gardening column to promote Georgia products.
Several special editions are published throughout the year, such as the biannual Farmland Editions published each March and September, and quarterly equine editions, which feature listings of equine boarding and breeding facilities located throughout the state. Monthly handicraft editions also are published, which feature items handcrafted by the advertisers. Throughout the spring and summer months, several “Pick-your-own” listings are included in the Bulletin to provide consumers with the location of farms where they can pick their own fresh produce. And during the Christmas-season, a list of the state’s Choose-and-Cut Christmas tree farms is featured. These have proved to be some of the Bulletin’s more popular services which benefit both farmers and consumers.
Every GA gardener should get this monthly for free!
Thanks!!! Here is the direct link:

You are so right about this Susan. I've been a subscriber for years now and have met many nice people because of it.
oooooooops, Thanks Sterling! Yes, I went all the way down to forrest park when I saw as add for foxglove babies. Mine had failed to germinate and she was selling them at a .25 a babies, so I took at least 100! Of course not all of them made it, but I Have an entire foxglove garden on the side of my house now and they will bloom this year and they are HUGE plants!
Susan
Thanks so much for this info. I'm sending my information off by Email to receive this. This is what the GA forum is all about ... to help keep everyone informed. :)

P.S.
If you are aware of Email newsletters on gardening of any sort, please let me know as I love to receive them especially. :)
I have subscribed to it for many years. Ms. Verma Fellows was the one who started me off with plants here. She was in her late 70's then, and still gardens...still advertises.
There must have been someone new doing the data entry this last edition. Did you see the funny spelling mistakes? Hastas and a few other things repeatedly wrong. That person certainly isn't a gardener :)
GGG
Verma Farlow is who I got my foxgloves from...In East Point. Are we talking the same person?? She still advertises regularly.
Also, there is a search feature at the web site that allows you to search through past issues..
Susan
Verma Farlow is correct Susan. Another lady who did advertise and sold nice Japanese Maples is Wylene Townley......don't know if she is still in business or not. She was moving from Forest Park to Ellenwood and I've not seen her ad. I bought one Crimson Queen from her and she was so worried about me getting it home undamaged that she had her DH put it into his van and transport for me.
I have Wylenes list!! I have not ordered form her yet, but I had planned on it.. I'm so glad to hear that it was such a great experience... Gee, this also might be a great place to post great deals to be had from the sellers listed there. I saw an ad for some gingers that I was intested in.
I called one seller once and she said she slept from 6AM till late afternoon, so I'd have to come at night!! I thought it was due to a job and she said she was retired and just choose to do that and had gotten into the habit. I asked her when she gardened and she said at night!! hmmm??
Susan
My FIL has subscribed for decades! I think he got tired[and I got ashamed to ask] of giving me his, so a few months ago I got my own scrip. I love it!!
For anyone living near the Jackson/McDonough area, there is another seller, Selah Ahlstrom, who has good buys. I've had the best luck with her woody perennials. The others are sometimes put into pots before they're "big enough" to make it unless you transfer them to larger pots so they can form large enough root systems to make it in the ground..
Yes, I've gardened at night too... a shephards hook and a gas camping lantern works great for me... Just haven't done it till 6am!!
This is great!! I had marked Selah's ad for the next time I was in Jackson for the round up!! I wanted to stop by and now that I know she's a great seller, maybe more than one of us would want to go. Her ad says she got lots of perennials.

My neighbor was out at 10:30 last night planting her newly purchased plants! Too cold for me! Brrr!
Gee, and even in the cold, wasn't it all wet last night??
Susan
hi folks how can i root a dogwood tree they are so exoensive and cant find them anymore in the forest .....jo
Hi Jo, welcome to Daves. You might want to go to the propagation forum and try there. They are not in the forrests anymore due to a disease that has killed off millions of them that are understory shade trees. In order for them to not get this disease and live now, they need to be in sun and be able to dry their leaves.

Been getting this bulletin since childhood.. My grandmother started receiving it in the early 1930's..I've had my own subscription for over 30 years.. Also love to read it online. Easy read and easy to navigate.

larkie
Thanks for the link. It brought up a copy of the ezine which did not provide a link or info on subscriptions. Do you have more info on subscribing? Thanks.
Thanks SGL, I had a subscription, and it ran out last year, and I coulnt find the address. I should have been better at keeping up with it ,cause it is definitely a goldmine of info .
Thanks againEufaula
BTW,how DO you grow fox glove from seed? I would really like to know.I bought a beauty from wal-mart today for $4.69,it has two flower spikes, and is about 2' tall. Mike
I have to winter sow the seeds, and if plants they have to be put out super early, like late Feb. early March.... Our heat down this far south just kills them quickly..They are so pretty..
Larkie
Foxglove seed can be purchased and they self seed after bloom. I have burned some of mine by gettting the fertilizer down into the leaves at the base and the tall flower spkies are falling over. :( Dont do that!!
Susan
I went to their website and subscribed about three weeks ago. Haven't heard anything from them.:o((
hmm.. It may take some time.. it will come :)
