Last night Fuzzy, or obese six-year old tabby, came through the kitty-door on the screened in back porch with something in his mouth. Close observation revealed that he had a baby bunny rabbit.
I sort of yelled at him and he put the bunny down and ran back out the kitty-door.
I started to pick the little fellow up, and he hopped off! YAY! I cornered him at the end of the porch and picked the poor little scared thing up. I cuddled him and held him close to me and talked softly to him and gently stroked his little head. He calmed down, and then DH held the light, and we walked out to the edge of the pine trees (pulpwood timber) and put him down. He hopped away!
Now if Fuzzy's hunter, skinny brother, Tiger, had caught the bunny, he would have been devoured immediately. He always brings his rats (and yes, a couple of bunnies) on the back porch to eat. I was glad it was Fuzzy who caught this one if it had to be caught. He is usually thrilled with a nice fat grasshopper.
