Hi, I'm new, I'd like to show you my jungle I started 3 1/2 yrs ago. I've been gardening for about 5 years. At one time I grew 22 varieties of bananas but am down to 11. My current addiction are bromeliads and palms. I like to trade so contact me if you have broms, orchids or palms for trade. I have a pretty extensive list and would be glad to send it. I look forward to contributing to this forum.
This was from this weekend, the date on my digital camera was screwed up
Hi, I'm new, I'd like to show you my jungle
Beautiful photos -- thanks so much for posting them.
Beautiful. I have zone envy here.
Really gorgeous!
WOW. Just beautiful! Love the variety of plants you have, and a lovely water feature too.
By the way, you forgot to introduce the blond in the lower right hand of the last picture. Part of your gardening staff? (smile)
Pati
ah yes, that would be my right hand gal Bailey. She's been on staff for 12 yrs now :) I also employ Molly, Buttons & Bob but they are camera shy
WOW ... How Awesome..... Thanks for sharing I'm so glad you did ....... Here in Kansas I am anxiously awaiting May so that I can get started out in the yard...... Your pics just make it that much harder to concentrate on work.......
How beautiful. Looks like the Garden of Eden. I envy your walkways and water feature.
Absolutely lovely. Thank you.
I can almost feel the humidity looking at those. Love it.
I didn't notice the puppy the first time! I'd love to put a small pond in my yard, but I have a big galumph golden retriever and I'm afraid she would wallow in it. How do your dogs get along with your pond?
The dogs just sneak a drink or two even though they have fresh water outside at all times!
Other than that, they dont bother with it at all. My cat also loves to sit at the waters edge and gaze at the fish. Its funny when the fish slap their tails & the cat goes running!
When my sheltie was a pup, she fell into it a couple times....puppies get that wild bunny hop thing going when they are slap happy and plop in she'd fall. Pond is narrow and 3 ft w/ shelves so she'd jump out as quick as she fell in. It was quite comical actually!
Very beautiful gardens Junglegal! Love it!
Well, heck Junglegal--it's about time you got here!
Lovely garden!

Junglegal, lol my dogs and cat love to drink out of my water garden too! Sometimes it seems like they go out of their way to avoid the fresh water. I see one of my dogs drinking out of puddles in the driveway too. When my cat was a kitten, he fell in 3 times-was soaking wet and covered with plants!
Great looking gardens-you've really put a lot of love and time in them and it shows-very peaceful looking.
Beautiful gardens! Worthy of any gardening magazine; well done!

Well thank you all for such a kind welcome. As far as the gardens go, its amazing what thei right angle and lighting will do in a photo LOL. What is not showing are my 1/2 finished beds, the $@ oxalis popping up everywhere & my chewed on plants from the evil lubbers!
I echo your sentiments regarding the oxalis!
Your jungle is awesome and inspiring. I too love the walkways and water feature. How big is your space?
Don't work those kids too hard! LOL
Looks good would love to see more.
Love that second photo. I can feel the heat and humidity (which I love )
Simply gorgeous! I am so glad I got to see your garden jungle. Even tho I'm living/cruising on a sailboat, we're in FL now, and loving the tropicals. I'm even looking to see if I dare sneak a plant into the marina landscaping, lol.

ERRRR!!!!!!!
(Ignore that's . It's the Zone evnvy coming out)
Lovely space JUNGLEGAL.
I really like what you've done there.
I echo Brian. More Photos please.
As for the Oxalis......what kind?
I collect it as it's certainly not invasive here.

Just beautiful, Junglegal! I have Zone Envy big time!
:) Donna
Looks so great. When can we all come to see it? LOL
Wow, I am impressed. I started my jungle last year, and can not wait to get out and get them all going again in a few weeks. Yours is very beautiful, and I know takes a lot of hard work to keep it that way. Louise
Great pictures, Junglegal. I love it when people show large parts of their yards. It's easy to get an idea of what the whole thing looks like then. Very, very nice. I love the walkway and I see you have a yellow brugmansia back there. Love all of it. I haven't been to St. Petersburg since 1973 and even then, it was just driving through. I would have loved to stop and look around the area, but time was not scheduled. Maybe another time I will be able to get back down that way and look around. Florida has a lot of great places to visit.
I'm really impressed!! What a beautiful yard!!
Bonnie
You have a beautiful garden and a bunch of awesome plants!!
Thanks everyone. I appreciate your feedback. It's a work in progress!! Cleared up lots of free space to try new plants this year. I'm going to start adding more palms this summer. I'll try and post pics every now again as things progress.
How much land do you have there? I'm really impressed with the plant variety. I wish I could leave mine outside.
My yard is actually pretty small, 55' x 127'
Typical lot size here in St. Pete.
I actually wish I had more shade, I'd love to plant more gingers, phils & aroids but my lot faces east/west and I get full blaring afternoon sun.
Welcome to DG Junglegal!!! I know its a bit late....but better late then never!
I like your jungle! Awsome!
Steve
That is a pretty small lot. The yard I just moved from was like 157x76 (1/4 acre) or something like that. I quickly ran out of room but I have six kids and there just wasn't enough room for them and the plants. Don't worry, I kept both. LOL I just moved to a small farm that is 7 1/4 acres and I am having a hard time getting away from just planting in one space like the front yard. We want to save some room for critters on the back of the property and I want a commercial greenhouse over in the field on the side but that still leaves plenty and all my plantings are STILL in the front yard or around the house. It's hard to get away from the 1/4 acre thinking.
Can you not create enough shade with understory planting? I guess it can be hard with the way the sun hits but I was wondering about using the bananas, maybe castor beans and other large plants to shield some of the sun.
Hey Bren,
Still looking as great as when I visited. I'm going to have to have you come over and help me design my yard now that I have cleared out a lot of the old stuff. The front yard is cleared and the back is almost clear. Did the cleopatra cannas ever come up
