Oh my goodness, Clare.....I have fallen in love with the color of this Plumie. Is there a place I could order a cutting by name?

Hi Pati. I got my grafted plant from Florida Colors: http://www.floridacolors.com/ Reds can be hard to root so you may want to considered getting a grafted one as opposed to a cutting. There is only a $3 difference. Luc and Carol are collecting plumerias right now in Thailand, but they will be back after the 28th. You can still place an order online now if you want, or you can call them when they return.

Thanks so much Clare. I didn't even know you could buy anything already rooted. Cuttings are all I have ever known about. (DUUH) This opens up a whole new world! LOL I'm going to place an order now that will be waiting for them when they get home.

I moved up here from Miami and about the same time my DD moved from Homestead upstate to Bartow. Looking at the address of Florida Colors, I could have driven a few blocks west of my daughter's house and picked them out myself.

I grew one from a cutting after a visit to Hawaii....... that and a Ti plant. Both got fairly big. Your plant brings back memories.

Pati, if you ever get back down there to Homestead, Luc and Carol are super nice people and will show you around their nursery. Once in a while, they host plumeria parties which are said to be super fun too. Yes, rooted cuttings are nice because it takes the worry out of rooting things yourself. Brad's Buds and Blooms sells many rooted plumerias since he imports from Australia and Thailand and wants to make sure the cuttings will root. Certain American cultivars are said to be super hard to root such as some rainbows like Bill Morange and reds like Hilo Beauty. Certain ones of Florida Colors are only available as grafts because they are difficult to root. Grafted plants may actually be stronger than rooted cuttings. I think Luc said his grafted trees held up better in the hurricanes last year than the trees started from rooted cuttings.

Thanks, Bill!

clare, you know me and red plumies. that one is fine!

LOL, Nery! Well, they call this a red, and so I did too, but I really think this is more of a dark pink. When I think of red, I think of Scott Pratt, Hilo Beauty, Key West Red, or Hurricane. These blooms are probably a little darker than normal because of the heat and humidity of the greenhouse; otherwise, it really looks more pink.
