Growing herbs from seeds

Jamison, PA(Zone 6a)

I am growing wormwood and lavender from seeds this year. They are about an inch tall now. Does anyone know how tall they can get first year and will lavender bloom first year?
Thank you.

I know the munstead lavender strain will bloom it's first year, I've got 50 or more started right now, they're all 2-4 inches tall right now.

Thanks, jdcoffman. I got English lavender and started it a month ago. It is one and half inch now and I got them about 50 too. I am growing first time from seed. Would you mine if I ask you a question? I used tray to start from seeds and put more than one seed in each cell. Should I pull them out to leave just one per cell? Or if I leave them all will it slow growth? Thanks.

Oh man, my lavender munstead are taking quite a long time to get started... I'm so jealous of your big seedlings jdcoffman :-)

GardenBaby, how big are the cells? And how many seeds did you put per cell? If we're talking 2-3 seedlings in each cell of a 32 cell flat (about 2 inch pots in a 1020 nursery tray) or even a 48 cell flat, than I'd say you're fine... If you've got 5 seedlings in each cell of a plug tray (72 or 120 cells), then they'll be too crowded IMO.

Hope that helps.

Thank you!

I finally got out and did some transplanting today...none of my lavender, I'm going to baby them a little more before they take the big leap... another 4 weeks ought to do!
