All mine melted away this winter, tho I even brought some inside and put them in a bubbler situation. I would love to have 1 or 2 for a start, mini or regular, and will be glad to send postage plus.
I LOVE these plants, but have not figured out how to over winter them here.
If anyone has any extras, I will give them as good a home as I possibly can!
Thanks so much in advance!
Yvonne
Anyone with extra water hyacinths?
I would like to help. But We have the same problem here. only more so. as We would have to supply plenty of heat plus lighting all winter. I do the water letuce in a 50 gallon aqurairum but by spring it is just about on its last legs. schrunk to about the size of frog bit. I think I will stay on the sideline here as I love the filtering effects of this plant. I did see one time where someone had some but I forgot what thread it was on. Will do some searching if I find it, be back to you.
Russ and Barb
Thanks!
YTRN,
I don't really think this is the one I had in mind, but on the American Ponders site
there is one that says water hyacinth available they will trade for something they don't have looks like the auther of that is adavisus. I know I saw another ; I'm thinking it was some one in the east somewhere. That was they had extra and you pay the shipping and that was all but I have not been able to find their thread as of yet; Sorry! I would trust DGers not sure of other sites. I did not ask texas water lillies if they had any. Then I had seen another site that advertised the W.H. and they were interested in shipping cases of them. and at the time of that serch I was looking for some place that I could just scoop some out of a water way or small lake and just say thank you, so I didn't make a note to myself. Should hit myself with a 2x4 so I don't make the same mistake twice! Russ
Yvonne..I am amazed that they are not everywhere there in your zone ?
I have managed to overwinter mine....soon they can go outside and multiply :)
Charlotte, if they are, I haven't found them!!
We have had some really icy days, no snow, but enough to make aquatic plants suffer.
Thanks, Russ, for trying to help me!
Yvonne
Yvonne;
Still looking;
You could be in for a wait though as most places that sell water hyacinth, cannot ship to Al. Az. Ca. Fl. La. Ms. SC. Tx. !!!
You may have to find some localy and over winter them. It can be done with a wadeing pool, a plastic cover and grow lites. In my area it would also require a little
additional heat source. I am seriously considering just that.
No they are illegal here in Florida as well as water lettuce.
I have tons of water lettuce (whoops, I didn't say that). LOL
Mine is confined to my little pond with no chance of escaping to the wild. I keep it for turtle food.
Yvonne:
I have not ordered yet but you might take a look at this site, it acctually gives two Email address' 1 800.578.lilly (5459)

This far north though I am waiting a while . Sorry had not found those freeby's yet
Russ, you are so nice to be searching this for me. What is the name of this site?
Thanks for ALL your help!!
Yvonne
Sorry Yvonne I tried to send the info but aparently I didn't do it right all the site address' were deleated I have asked another DG friend to try sending you the info.
I wasn't doing the search just for you. If I can help others I'm all for it. I too need to find a good place to replace mine. Here in the Sioux City area they usually git$3 to $5 each for them.
Last fall I used a large net and just started getting them out of the water and over to the garden compost pile, as they would have just turned to mush after freezeing and build up the nutrient level for the algae to bloom in the early spring. I didn't even bother to try saveing any as I'm not set up with a hot house for them.Pondplants dot com go down to bog at bottom of page click then down to bottom of that page where you should find water hyacinth Crossing my fingers

Russ, I got the D mail and am surely appreciative of it!
I did save a couple of water plants over the winter in the house using a big plastic tub and bubbler. They would have liked more light, but they survived on what they got. I just hate I lost the hyacinths. I love them and they fascinate me!
I did order some and hope to have them soon. If they multiply rapidly, do you want me to send some to you?
Take care and happy gardening!!
Yvonne
If anyone orders and is willing to re-ship to me, please email me.
I hit the phone number in google and this is the site. http://www.pondplants.com/
Yvonne That would be great. Did you order the miniture or the regular.
Gosh for $.90 each I was thinking I would order some of the minnies a little later on.
See if I can winter them. I usually get the giant ones and you are right they really multiply fast. not sure how the minnies will do. but if they do well enough I'll be happy just as long as they do their job of filtering.
I don't have any pictures that are jpg or gif right now I will work on that and send a pic
Russ
