Do you suppose it's too cold to ship zone 8-9 natives from CA to points east, like MO and TX? Thanks, Laura (specifically speaking about CA Bay Laurel I'm offering).
CLOSED: Is it too cold to ship?
it's fairly warm here in texas. tonight and tomorrow night the temps may drop into the 30's but after that we're back up to nighttime temps in the 50's. i live around dallas. it will be colder in the panhandle but still i think texas is good to go for you. barb
It's 35 and sleeting in Kansas City at this moment!
BRRR...
What I'm worried about is what happens in transit. I'm in way north CA, almost OR - so plants could go through Denver, if they travel like people do. I suppose it's good to wait a bit.
While they wait for the truck to get a full load, they sit outside in the temps that are what they are - Denver is VERY COLD right now - I'd wait to ship until mid-April. The weather man, just this morning, predicted a HARD FREEZE for the midwest on APRIL 15th.
Let the tax man do his thing, then send your goodies - from now until the middle of April, the mail is all about TAX RETURNS, and that means SLOW MAIL DELIVERY.
Oh no Kay!!!! (I'm in MO too- I'm who Laura's asking about LOL.) I hope they're wrong about that hard freeze. I guess you're snow-covered like we are right now too huh? :(
Well, that's good to know. I get antsy - I'm sure everyone is for spring. Thank you.
Hey Laura- I'm sending some things out on Monday (the 27th)- I think we'll be okay to do our trade then. We're supposed to be moderately warm by then. :)
Ok, me too, then. I keep walking around and seeing new babies...I really want to see how they do for someone else.
Were they begging to come live with me? LOL. :)
With someone...here they have serious competition with 36 paws trampling around!
Aren't you concerned about the middle of the trip weather for these? We could just be wasting postage in our impatience, and killing good plants. ummm...not to be wishywashy, but maybe we really should wait. I kill enough plants with ignorance as it is! :-)
I have a small nursery business here in MO and have been shipping plants priority mail without any problems. Granted I haven't been shipping anything like musa or similar, but perinnial flowers and seedlings have been doing fine.
Ok, that settles it...enough people have said it's ok, so, I'll go for it on Monday!
