Terrarium Fun

Silver Spring, MD

This is a fish bowl that I picked up at Pet Smart. I added some little terrarium plants and a turtle.

Soooo cute Nana!!!

what is that beautiful pink flower with shiny leaves?

Cute! Are the plants all minis? is the turtle alive? If so, how do you take care of it?

The turtle is a figurine, but very cute. The plants are slow growing small plants that do well in terrariums. Sorry,I didn't keep the names of the plants. The flowering one is a suculant type plant that I see often in the grocery store. I got it because it was blooming and so small. The terrarium is not very large. The plants were under a dollar and I bought 5. I had the turtle and the fish bowl was old stock on sale 7.99. I used my regular potting mix.

So cute and pretty. The fish bowl is fancy with the pretty blue glass. The little pink plant is darling. I thought the turtle was real !
Nice Nanna ! Thanks for sharing :))

Beautiful! I like the idea of using a container with a slight color to the glass.... nice choice of both plants & terrarium!

SO COOL NANNA! Can you tell me what you put down for the soil?
I have some terrarium begonias that I want to take out of their travel containers from FL. (i.e. orange juice cup, but they are happy in the OJ cups)

I have a 10 gallon fish tank that my son long ago gave up on and I want to put it to use, but I'm not sure what to do about the soil layers.
thanks!
(also have a smidgen of Tiny Wood Trail crown left with half a root that might appreciate being in there for a while)

First you need to put down rocks or gravel to create a drain area. Then I put the plants where I wanted them and filled in with my av light soil. I'm sure with a 10 gallon tank you could have different heights to make things more interesting. Add a few rocks for interest and it will be wonderful.

I am still hunting down a used fishtank so I can set up a terrarium :)

Too bad you're not next door. I think there are 2 tanks in the basement. Too big for me to tackle.

try freecycle.org or Craigslist.org for used/cheap stuff.

That's so beautiful, Nanna! Thank you for sharing it!

Thanks for reminding me. Craigslist.org is great.

I know! My daughter just found a super SUV and bought it via CL.
She wanted to sell her cutie pie antique mercedes (doubled her money! smart little cookie) and get an SUV. She found a nice one!
