I bought 3 flowering plum trees at an auction. They looked nice and healthy and I like the shape of the tree. But I don't know if a flowering plum is just that...........or if it actually is for fruit also. I haven't planted them yet, still in pots. Does anyone know anything about these ?
Flowering plum tree......fruit or just flowers ?
An auction?? Man, I need to get out more.
I expect these are ornamentals. You may want to cover them with a light reemay sort of cover if there's a Japanese beetle problem again this year. They LOVE plum trees.
Most flowering plums (purpleleaf plum) will have small plums about an inch diameter. Birds or squirrels may eat them but they usually are not worth human consumption.
Thanks, sorry to be so long getting back.
They have leafed out, but no blooms. They are still in the pots though.
Haven't decided where we want to place them in the yard yet.
Zeppy, it was the neatest auction. They had all kinds of shrubs and trees.
I think a small nursery went out of business and brought all their remaining stock to be auctioned with all the other typical junk you see at auctions.
I ended up with 10 , 1 gal. Forsythia bushes and the three flowering plum trees, for under $20.
