Wanted: Colchicums Have...

San Francisco, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi there,
I'm in need of some Colchicum bulbs for a breeding experiment I'm doing this fall. Can someone help? I have lots of other bulbs to trade or perennials.

Thanks,
Richmond

what a coincidence!! I've just come into Dave's to offer Colchicums. these are very small bulbs, about the size of a small crocus bulb, but have flowers ready for this fall. I spent this morning digging up the parent bulbs and detaching the babies.

what do you have to offer?

I would like to buy some colchicum bulbs. Can I buy them now?

there is a small window for buying them in late summer when they are dormant and before the blooms grow

Colchicums are large bulbs like between a tangerine and a orange. Fall blooming crocus like Zonatus and Sativus are like crocus bulbs.

Park Seed (US) has colchicums for sale in their Bulb catalogue and on their web site. They are fairly pricey -- a collection of 3 types, 1 each is $18.95

scandelous!! they should be only a few dollars each. we pay £2/$3 for them

Dorshaw, you have mail!

Mark, few US gardeners even know they exist, so they are not mass-produced here. Only a few companies offer them. Those of us who grow them know how quickly they multiply! I have 5 spares going begging now.
