December January and February it was absolutely beautiful here, no snow and not too bad temps...Well along comes March and all thoughts turn to Spring right....wrong!!!!!! We are getting royaly dumped on with snow. We have about 10 inches of the vey heavy wet variety and I is still snowing...My yard looks like a winter wonderland...The wind is blowing so hard tonight they have closed roads in the area because of white-out conditions...Please Spring come back!!!!!
HELP I'm snow bound!!!!!!
Did you invite your poor Robin in?
It's here too.....no wonderful wet snow yet but the wind sure has picked up. Looks like the end of December beginning of January out there.
On the plus side it'll give moisture to the hay fields. Most of the prairies, from Texas up, are really dry and down there many are starting to feed their animals the waste from the cotton crops. Lots are showing pics of the cattle looking pretty thin. http://davesgarden.com/place/t/566824/

This is supposed to be above us a little later on.........Palliser's Triangle is gonna get hot soon enough.

What is it like there now kinnika? I've always wondered what your valley looks like with snow.
The hoodoos must have little peaks on their heads now. :)

We didnt get much snow in Calgary but it is cold and lite snow flurries for a few days. March is living up to its reputatuion as one of our snowiest months. Glad to hear there is lots of snow out in the countryside where it is sure needed.
Kinnika, a big dump of snow is sure hard to take when your already geared up for spring. All that glaring white under a much stronger sun, just seems ???....But it's not a bad thing, when you need the precip.
(better you than me)
LOLOLOLOL ;) Manitoba was just tooooooo greedy this year.
Yikes....according to this morning's report on the Weather Network, Edmonton got a dump of 22 cm of snow yesterday. Pictures were pretty gruesome. :(
Hang in there Alberta! Tomorrow's the first day of Spring! How long can it last?
Don
Don maybe May? April if we are lucky!
March 22nd. Just you wait.
Lilypon I didn't go to the HooDoos but here is a picture of our yard..If you went to the Swinging Bridge you went right past the house..Soferdig I sure hope you are wrong about 50 on March 22 or I had better get a boat to navigate my yard.Fancyvan, my son is in Calgary and you didn't get half the snow we got ( But I will share ) Echoes I was really looking forward to Spring but I guess I will have to wait a while...
Your home is beautiful. Windows, windows, windows. Ya gotta love 'em! Ü
Don
Kinnika, I sympathize with you. On Tues/Wed we got dumped on. Over 30cm. Two days before the water was running in the streets. Just when you think spring is on its way, winter rears its ugly head again. Actually it is way too soon for us to lose our snow here in Cochrane. Of course we will still be getting a storm in April.
Beautiful house, yard and location kinnika Ü .....you will have to post pics taken from the same spot in the summer. We did look at your yard (I remember your house :).
DH said when we saw your business it was too late in the day and you were closed.
What and where are the Hoo Doos?
Here they are Sofer: http://www.virtuallydrumheller.com/tour/hoodoos.htm
Thanks Pam way cool. We have those here on the missouri at the white cliffs. I really enjoyed the ski area highlited. 300 feet of vertical. That is a hoot. I remember there was a garbage dump converted into a ski hill in michigan. We are so lucky here in Montana. http://www.virtuallydrumheller.com/tour/bleriot.htm We have these in montana. I loved crossing these. They are right by our hoo doos.
kinnika - love the windows on the house. Where is Rosedale?
Ann in also snowy Ottawa (not much recently though).
Rosedale is about 5 miles East of Drumheller which is about 90 miles NorthEast of Calgary.. The windows on the right side of the house as you are looking at the picture is my sunroom..
Lily well you'll just have to come back to Drum when the shop is open ...
I will.....prolly in late May/early June. :) Crossing fingers DD is done a bit earlier and the greenhouse there will still be loaded. ;)
I love your home. I have always wanted a prow shaped great room. It must face west? the sun room being south? What grows on the arbors? Clematis looks like cause clean now.
The house faces kind of southeast with the sunroom facing East..It is not on the lot straight..The front arbor has a Trumpet Vine on it that we moved to it last year and the one in the garden is loaded with Gourds every summer..We are a couple of BC transplants and that is the kind of house we always wanted so we built it in Alta. 3 years ago before we built the house we planted about 100 trees around the fence line..Then we planted 40 Evergreens so some day I will have lots of privacy.
Lily let me know when you are coming.
Then we planted 40 Evergreens so some day I will have lots of privacy.
This one will be letting you know. :)
LOL YUP that is the big reason for all the trees. You could not imagine all the people we had stopping when we were building this house..We had a mobile on the same property while we built and one day we came out to find a whole family in the house...we have no idea who they were and really didn't give them much chance to tell us before we booted them off the property..It was amazing!!
Just let me know when you are coming and I will be pleased to show you the yard...who knows we may even have the ponds in by then....
And if you get as far as Rosebud just keep trucking down the road to Calgary!
Ooooooooooh I'd love to fancy but??? (DS will be going to University next fall and DD will be heading back to College)
fancy maybe we could have a mini prairie roundup in the Valley of the Dinosaurs?
kinnika ........ PONDS!!!! :D Ü :D
p.s. yep I can see that happening (it wasn't us;) I believe we might have walked up to your fence tho. ;S

Lilypon: I have actually been thinking for some time that I would love to host a western canadian roundup here in Calgary - there are some great public gardens that Im sure folks would enjoy - and lots of great private ones too. but mid May thru to late July is really busy with dog stuff this year. August maybe?
Seems there are a few members within driving distance and maybe some others a bit further out who would fly in. Or next year.
carol
Carol ( fancy) it sounds wonderful that you'd be willing to do that!!!!!!. Ü The Canadian contingent will be keeping our eyes peeled for your announcement,
No matter what kinnika and fancy I'll let you know when we will be heading Drumheller way.
Fancy ( Carol ) I love your idea of a roundup..If I can help let me know.. What kind of dog stuff??? If Lily is down here on a convienent day for you maybe you can slip down for coffee..
Kinnika I do agility with my dogs. My club is doing 2 trials - in May and July and I am trial sec for July. Also we have a trainer from Brazil coming up to do two weekend seminars early June and in between the regional agility championships - Im not running a dog but I am site manager. For sure let me know if Lilypon is going to be in town - I will come out if I am free of dog committments.
I'll do a seperate post about the possibility of a round up and get some thoughts from those who would consider coming.
