Well, that was fun. Hubby got to go to Cabela's and I got to go to my first AV show. It was fun. Smaller than I thought it would be, but still really fun. Neat to see so many plants I had only seen on the web. I bought some AVs and a few other things.
Here is a picture of two of the AVs I really liked:
Back from My First AV Show : )
That is cool. I have never seen one before. I traded a leaf at the Baltimore Club Meeting last Monday evening and have two leaves of Chirita Moonlight. Maybe I will get some babies.
Very happy you had a good time.
LOt's of fun ! Lot's of pretties Pam ! I never seen a Chirta shoot out like babies like this before. I have 5 or 6 of them. That ones really cool !
What did you buy ?
WOW don't ever stop love the pictures Pam ! Thanks for sharing !
that chirita is grown very well! It's a relatively new species in cultivation and has not been given a name yet. That's why it is still identified by its collection number, usbrg 98-083 and the location of collection, Vietnam. I think there are one or two hybrids out there already made with 98-083 as a parent.
WOW Thanks for the info Keyring. It's really cool plant !
Keyring, you win the prize for tonight. I thought Viet Nam was the name of the plant. : ) It was pretty.
I will take a picture of what I bought, may have to do it tomorrow. Depends on the light. Anyway, we had a restful time. : ) It was good.
Awesome! I am off to my first show and sale in Sacramento next weekend. I can't wait!
Take a look at this amazing Chirita that I HAVE to get my hands on from the Vancouver African Violet and Gesneriad Society 2005 Show

This is Chirita 'Cynthia'
a million dollars to the emabler who can find this beauty for me. (only kidding, I wish I had a million to give away, I'd have to marry Bill Gates to do that! WHAT? and give up that cutie pie Dh I have now, no way) But sure would like to find one!
Thanks for sharing you show photos, keep em coming!
were the plants grown by the local club or by a greenhouse? They are all nice, and the trailer is blooming YEA!
Did you buy the streptocarpella? I love mine, it's in a big 10" hanging basket!
that columnea is gorgeous!
Now for Chirita Cynthia. This is a sport of Chirita Kazu (which is chirita subrhomboidea X chirita sinensis var. latifoia). Sported by Vincent Woo, Bill Price now has the original plant. Apparently there are a few more in Canada but basically it is tough to propagate because it can only be propagated by suckers. I suggest you make friends with people in Canada, and the take a trip across the border - you might need agricultural papers to bring it back!
I better get a big bag of money to go to Canada for one little ol' sucker! (don't know if DH would be happy about that! especially after my Florida jaunt!)
We have friends in Canada Lots on our forum ! And I've been sending plants to a friend there for years !
Pam your plants are beautiful :))
Streptocapells's are so much fun ! Easy to grow and progate .
Chirita 'Cynthia' is different. I think if my sported like this I might think it was sick . Does it have yellow foliage ?
That Cynthia is pretty. I wonder if it takes special care with so much varigation. Or is that technically varigation?
Yes, the flowers were grown by the members. Everyone was very nice. I had purchased a petrocosmea from a member, but when I got there, she told me she had spotted mealie bugs on it and had to treat it. She said I could still buy it, but I told her I was not ready to tackle mealies if I didn't have to. Anyway, such a nice person, and so honest. Really nice bunch. And I got nine past issues of AV magazine for $4.50. Good reading, good pictures and then I can pass them on to my mom. : )
That's great Pam ! Will you be going to the meetings each month ? Does your Mom grow too ?
Hi Pam,
Thank you for the lovely pics!
Joanne
Thanks, Joanne.
Allison, no, the meetings are 4 hours away. : ( But don't worry - I am a member of the DG African Violet Society of America. : ) Meets every day of the week, too!

Boy are they pretty. I would love to go to a AV show. I don't think they have any around here. I love the Chirita.
Makshi,
Do you want any leaves? I have some I can send, if you are interested. Pam
