sedum lineare Acre sedum, or Carpet sedum? Yellow flowering

Woodbury, CT

Before I offer this for trade, I wonder whether it is considered invasive, because it grows so fast. What I really use it for is as a mulch that spreads quickly. It loosens up the top layer of soil for the next year, and then I just pull it up when I want to install something permanent. It has very shallow roots and can be pulled up in seconds. Any feedback would be welcome.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I use this plant for mulch in ALL my pots and flower beds - it is WONDERFUL! I wish more people would use this creeping sedum instead of paying good money for wood mulch.

Lent,
What are you looking for in trade?
Chantell

Woodbury, CT

Chantell, Do you have any phlox of any kind? My area is heavily wooded so any sunlovers wouldn't work. Any native plants? This acre sedum is called that because it grows to fill an acre. Saves time because it repels the real weeds.

Kayjones, thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear a like-minded person.

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

I would love some as I have a ditch bank at the coast I would love to cover so I would not have to mow it.

Lavina

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Lavina, may I recommend you also plant Crown Vetch on your bank - not only is it pretty when in bloom, but it was bred to aide in erosion control.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

lent, what zone are you in? i would like a start of this but don't know what i have that you could use. i don't have any phlox. and i want it for the same reason that lavina wants it. i am tired of mowing my road frontage. i am lining the road frontage with spider lilies, sedum, daffs, muscari, spiderwort and wine cup.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Lent,
Sorry...all my stuff is either indoor or full sun - my townhouse faces south/east...LOL

me too for road cover. i have to mow outside the fence all the time and i hate it.

but i dont have any phlox due to rabbits(might be deer) eating it down to nubbins last year and dont plan to do anymore. and all my other stuff is sun loving as i have no shade.

I am in Connecticut, zone 5. There is no way I can send anything meaningful in the spring to more than one person. If you can wait a couple of months, I'll have the benefits of more growth and can send you all a small amount. No trade, I'll just send you what I can. It'll still grow through the summer for you. Okay?

A search in the plant search database gives 4 nurseries selling acre sedum. That may be your best bet for the kind of spread you are looking for.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

that's o.k. for me lent. i didn't want you to supply all the sedum for my road frontage. hahhaaha i have lots of different kinds already growing there. do you need any sweet violets? i think they would make it where you are. i have bunches.

Woodbury, CT

We have a ton of regular violets. Are yours fragrant?

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i don';t have a clue. i just found them at an old house place and brought some home. there are a few that are variegated but are smaller plants than the others. they had very long flower stalks that had died back. do you know what they could be. they look like the violets in shape only smaller and variegated.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Lent,
Ditto for me...promise wasn't trying to hi-jack all your sedum...LOL. After spring if you have some great, if not...no worries. Certainly if I have something you're interested in give me a shout. :)

Dh came in this morning yelling about how bad it looks. i use the other driveway so will have to look today whats up.

Woodbury, CT

I perhaps!!! overreacted, Huh!!! I'll hang on to everyone's messages and send it out in June. Imzadi, this would be a good cover for the area where your newspaper lady comes onto the property.

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

thanks lent. do you want me to go ahead and send sasbe or just money for postage? barb

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Lent,
PLMK when to send you postage...to where and how much and if there's anything you'd like me to send you - I'll double check when I get home in case I overlooked anything shade related.
Talk soon!

my grass where she is turning around looks awful. i was so mad at it i called the newspaper office and yelled at them. they are sending someone to look at it. it wont be hard to miss.

Woodbury, CT

No need to send postage now. I will send these out in June once they have spread some. Nothing fussy to planting them. I'll save everybody's messages.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Excellent - thank you!!! :)

Woodbury, CT

My garden just popped over the weekend. That included the acre sedum. I'll send some to each of you if you put them in and then send more in June, July when it gets really big. The y're light so the postage won't be much. Alot more went through the winter than I anticipated. Hi to all. Marcia.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Wow, Marcia...you're great!!! Thanks so much...I just cleared out what will be my cacti garden - have the agave and yucca in (cacti still rooting) - sedum will go in between. I'm so excited!!!

Woodbury, CT

I'll send sedum out next Monday. I'm ready to take your addresses now. You can use D-mail.
