fertiziling mandevilla

(Zone 5b)

Hello,
As you can see my mandevilla didn't lose its leaves indoors this winter. I cut it back in October, watered with warm water all winter. When should I start to fertilize and with what? By mid April it will be warm enough in the sunroom and should be ok outdoors in June. Thanks Jacqui

Maybe I should have posted this question on the vines and climbers forum?

Hi jacqui, someone will come along that is familiar with these. I purchase one every year here in Oklahoma, but I have never fertilized mine. I'm remembering that years ago I read that they did not like fertilizer.

Yours is very healthy, jacqui_ontario. Whenever I bring mine in, I always lose it during the winter. I didn't know they didn't like to be fertilized, Brinda.

Brinda and Donna...last year's purchase was my first experience with mandevilla. The tag indicated to fertilize every 2 weeks and not to allowed the root ball to dry out. I used a weak solution of Miracle-Gro but stopped fertilizing in the fall. I'm guessing the plant will need some nourishment to start blooming again.

I have just checked to be sure.......flowers on Mandy's come on new growth. Fertilizer will bring on the new growth and encourage the developement of the new buds, so regular fertilizing would be what I would do too. My Tango Twirl has twirled all over the windows and curtains, twice, in the family room. Think I might be feeding her a little too much. LOL!

Thanks Brugie,
My mandy has lots of new growth, so I'll start fertilizing now. It bloomed profusely last summer.
