I am in zone 8a... I planted lots of brugs late summer and early fall last year. Some were cuttings others were already rooted. We had a very mild winter. Will they come back and if so, when should I expect to see new growth/

Will they come back?
If they had time to root well in the soil I would guess they will come back from the roots. Did you mulch them?? You shoud see new growth in spring. Though one year here, I didn't get growth till I was into summer. I thought it was dead.
They seem to be able to take short periods of cold much better than prolonged perids.
So maybe I still have some hope of seeing mine come back out this year?
It really appears to be dead. Because of all the extremely hot and dry weather last summer, mine didn't put on any blooms until late in the year and just as it was beginning to bloom...it turned cold.
Please tell me...there is still hope. :)

mine has come back and I probably cut the stalks too short at the beginning of winter. New growth has started near the end of the stalk, near the ground. Next year, I will wait until Spring to cut back. This was a very large plant and prolific bloomer. Don't know the name.
I had one in a big pot that I put in a storage building during the winter. I know it got really cold in there. The main stalk withered and I thought it was gone, but I watered it anyway, and I was astounded to see some new growth coming from below the base.
Amazing the neglect some of these bruggers can take.....and then I baby some and they end up dying anyway.
There's still hope for your babies....give them some water!
