just curious about this...what is the success rate for leaves? how many should i expect to root and make babies for me? were you successful your first time with leaves? thanks for any feedback. i am not trying to count my chicks before they hatch just seeing how you all did with your first leaves.
Kelly
success rate?
I count on 100 percent but say 90 -95 percent depending on th age of leaf, varieity, and enviroment and care.
that's about my rate as well. closer to 95, now that I use my perlite method.
I've got ears coming up all over the place now.
Yeah mine is really 95-100 but I did not want to be a bragger . lol But when I was new growing by leaf and did not have 200-500 plus leaves down at one time
then my success rate was 100 percent.
Now so many leaves not enough health to care for them success rate has gone down.
i have 73 cups down right now....send me some of yalls luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope i don't kill them!
Just follow what I told you they'll live. lol
Well when I saw Laurie's leaves I first sent her covered with all the wettnes inside too much moisture I new they were gonners. Now she has learned with experience her own wonderful method and she is having terrific success !
I have tried several times to cover with holes to make it eaier so I would not have to water so often only to find the next day over filled with moisture.
I tried growing hundreds of leaves last year with the boxes in inclosed mini greenhouses. They did not hardly need watering, they got no air circulation, they were not under light or kept as warm in the winter nights. Days are short in the winter they did not get much light from the windows. 99 percent sat there :(( I I fount some with babies I give them a good fish drink put them under light on stand and they puffed all up. Not until I opened the greenhouses , they got aircirculation and needed regular watering nad feeding they started to grow. As I had room I'd put them under the lights. This winter no leaves were closed in and babies grew fast, plants bloomed galore all winter it was great ! Reason why I could send out hundreds of babies :))
Even Rob from Violet Barn recomends feeding leaves .
I feel you can have a good 95-100 percent baby rate and each leaf should give you 2-6 babies maybe more ! Just don't let them be dry. Don't let moisture build up if you keep them covered where leaves get wet or touch covering they will turn to mush.
If possible keep warm, air circulation. Feed VF-11 I always use warm/hot water. Keep evenly moist . Keep under lights. My leaves and babies are close almost touching. Once roots and babies start. Water when cups are light but don't let dry out as roots die and will have to re-grow.
Good Luck!
