WANTED: Tulip tree seeds!??!?

Wilmington, NC

If youd like to trade...please email me for my list (or send yours)... I am so bombarded with trades and gathering seeds that I havent had a chance to list everything! I have over 85 varieties of flowering seeds alone. UGH!

Would love to add a tulip tree to my garden!

That's the Tennessee state tree!~! Tulip Poplar. There will be seeds galore in spring (May probably). If you don't get any offers now, you might try posting again then.

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I have some tulip tree seeds collected this fall. Let me know if you are interested. We have a huge one across the street and it always manages to send lots of seeds into our yard.
It is a very pretty tree.

Ok ladies and gents, When I read tulip tree, I had a different picture in my mind of what she wanted. So Nicole, which is it? Do you want the tulip poplar tree(huge tree with small blooms you rarely see because they are so high up, or were you referring to the Japanese magnolia that people in the lower south call a tulip tree? And there are several varieties of that one too. The real tree kind and the more shrubby, bush kind, with very dark purple blooms. And all you experts with the latin and scientific names just have to forgive me, cause I don't know them.

Wilmington, NC

I am guilty.... and a southerner as well! Not to mention my soil-less yard, I dont think the poplar would care for my surroundings. They get so tall... and our hurricanes... and it wouldnt fit in my greenhouse!I am speaking of the shrub type with purple blooms and dark foilage. I will go find a latin name... unless someone else can help us here~...

Sorry for the confusion!!!

Heres one variation... African Tulip Tree - Spathodea campanulata. I am posting pics in the photos section!! Now Im afraid no one will have this tree.

But I saw a picture of another one... that was more of a shrub and had purple blooms. I have not yet found its latin name. Where's Chooch!?!???!!!

Wilmington, NC

AHA!!! Magnolia x soulangiana.... "justmelisa" helped me out!! (shes a southern gal too!) thank goodness. Now Im back to the drawing board.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Actually, I have that shrub, I believe it's called Alexandria(maybe). I have never seen seeds on it, but I'll try to pay better attention this year. However, if that doesn't work out, there is a very old plant on our property in AL where I grew up. It has multi-trunks(small), perhaps I can try to dig one up(we'll see).

Warm wishes,

gingerlilly hit it on the head...Im a Texan and in my area of Tx we call the Jap Magnolias tulip trees. I think I have the tree you want. The name of mine is Jane. Jane has the darker flower....purple..
I am looking for other trees similiar of the same magnolia family....Ann is one of the names....I dont remember the other. Maybe they are all named with women's names? I don't have seed yet from my Jane. It is 2 years old. This year it is taking off in height. I could get you a cutting.... maybe someone else has seed though.
