CLOSED: Rare Hibiscus Kokio Red species
Do you know the zone tolerances for the H. kokio red? I'm in zone 8b winter/zone 9a summer climate. I'm able to keep some named varieties of more tropical hibiscus alive through the winters with hefty covering of mulch and other protection. I have H. 'Daytona Sun' which is nice yellow/red large flowered species. I'm still waiting to see which hibiscus are going to leaf out fully this year.

This one won't take a frost. You could pot it and bring inside in your coldest weather.
Kyle
Thanks, Kyle. I've gotten too old and brittle to deal with tropicals in pots. All my tropicals went into the ground this year with a live or die attitude on my part. I did put them in places against walls and trellises where I could throw some blankets over them on the coldest nights. I have moved my last pot of heavy tropicals! But I do appreciate the offer and if you would like some of my hibiscus anyway, I can see if I can get some cuttings started for you.

I would love some hibiscus. I have a Texas star hibiscus which comes back in the Spring. I have red bee balm (monardo) for trade.

it might not like our chilly winter temps. I have my hibiscus planted in the ground, as I too, am too old to haul them in and out.
