Lotus help

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

Here is a pic of my lotus I have started in my house--I have it under lites to keep it warm. Do I need to add more water and if so how much and should I add more dirt? Im afraid if I add more water that I cant keep it warm. In the past I have tried to start them and they always rot for me. The soil temperature is 70 degrees. One more question--when do I start to fertilize it and with what and how much. Im determined to get one to bloom!!! The name of the lotus is Sweet Carolina. Thanks Cheryl

I usually throw about 2 to 4 fertilizer tabs per pot. The trick is to put the tabs away from the plant. Your plant will grow faster in warm shallow water rather than deep water over 1 ft

I second what Brian says. I would put just three or four inches of water. Also three or four pond tabs and push them into the soil away from the lotus . Mine are waking up too.
