Unknown Bromeliad

Glen Rock, PA

Greetings to all. This was sent to me by a generous friend in the upper Mid-West a year or 2 ago. Now that it has bloomed, I wonder if somebody has the name for it. The plant was squashed by a 60lb/28Kg pot last Dec but managed to bloom. Tough ain't they? If another photo would help, I can post a closer one. (The one on the left is Bil. nutans.) Thanks.

Cosh, is it something I said? Did my post kill this forum? So sorry.

The flowers and bracts certainly look like a Billbergia, but the lengthwise stripe on the leaves doesn't match any in my book.
( I know the feeling...re: Did I kill the forum.) :-)

this is awesome i've never seen a variegated bromeliad. I hope someone knows what this is.

Ok Pete, Best I can tell or match it to is the striped urn plant,
Bilbergia pyramidalis striata. The striping looks identical to your
plant. My book says it has a bright red inflorescence appearing
in winter. Lasting 1 to 2 weeks. If these bilbergia's would just
bloom a little longer. :(
